sweep Highland
The Summit Patriots swept a boys-girls league doubleheader at Highland Monday, Dec. 16 with the girls winning 39-35 and the boys 70-51. Although the games were at Craigmont they were Summit home games. The score was tied at 12-12 after the first quarter but Summit pulled away in the second quarter for a 28-17 halftime lead. A low scoring third quarter saw Summit add to its lead as they took a 34-21 lead into the final period. They then withstood a Highland comeback as the Huskies rallied to within 4 points. Rachael Frei led the Summit scoring with 11 points with Ally Hale and Sarah Chmelik adding 8 points each and Megan Seubert and Megan Rehder 6 points each. Summit is now 7-1 on the season and 2-1 in league play. Highland got off to a strong start with a 24 points first quarter as they led 24-15 after 1 period of play. The teams played pretty much even in the second quarter as Summit led 34-26 at the half. Summit opened things up in the second half as they outscored Highland 17-12 in the third quarter and 19-13 in the fourth. In addition to the big nights by Waters and Lustig, Matthew Schwartz stuffed the stat sheet with 14 points, 9 assists, 6 steals and 7 rebounds. Patrick Chmelik added 6 points with Nathan Beckman and Chris Osborne adding 5 points each and Thomas Schwartz 2 points. With the win Summit improves to 3-1 overall and 2-1 in league play.
