Cold
and flu season hits Cottonwood Blood Driv
“A lot of our regular donors were unable to donate this time due to suffering from either a cold or the flu,” commented Brenda Kaschmitter, Blood Drive Co-Chair. “Even with all the colds and flu going around we still got 76 usable units which is only 4 short of our goal, so we feel pretty lucky.” Once again a big thank you to all the wonderful volunteers; without them this blood drive would not be possible; Delores Von Bargen, Judy Forsman, Theresa Uptmor, Bobbie Schmidt, Carol Lauer ,VFW Post 491, Daune Hoene, Katherine Nida, Kellie Heitman, Heidi Holubetz, Ali Hoene, Madison Ulmer, Beka Bruner, Hanna Ross and Lauren Alfrey. The volunteer duties include helping set up, making lunch for the Red Cross workers, escorting donors, checking in donors and offering maple bars and juice. We have some of the best volunteers around. We would also like to acknowledge our two first time donors; Jessica Enneking and Andy Gehring; they were both very brave. Along with the first time donors there were several who received milestone pins. Roy Uhlenkott received a 1 gallon cup and pin and John Schmidt received his 2 gallon pin. Those who received a 3 gallon pin were Heather Lightfield, Joe Baerlocher, Sr. Chanelle and Mary Uhlorn. Terry Cochran received a 5 gallon pin, Ed Holthaus received his 6 gallon pin and Jean Poxleitner received her 7 gallon pin; a very special thank you to all of these folks for their continued dedication to donate. Brenda and co-chair Cheri Holthaus would also like thank the employees of St. Mary’s Hospital for their wonderful support of the blood drive by coming in and donating. The hospital also purchases the maple bars the donors enjoy after giving blood. “We hope to see all our past donors as well as some new donors at our next blood drive which will be on March 18th,” said Kaschmitter. “If you would like to make an appointment please feel free to contact either myself or Cheri Holthaus at 962-3251.” |
