Vs. Genesee
In a battle of teams at the top of the White Pine League standings, Prairie broke open a tight game with a 10-0 run in the third quarter.Rhett Schlader with the ball out in the corner against Genesee.
Genesee started strong in the game jumping out to leads of 2-7 and 4-9 before Prairie put together at 12-2 run to take a 16-11 lead. Schlader had half the points in that run while Bruner added 4 more and Ross the other two.
The lead didn’t last long though as Genesee rallied to tie the game at 16 by the end of the quarter.
Prairie then started the second quarter with a 9-0 run as Bruner scored 5 before picking up his third foul.
After Bruner went to the bench Genesee was able to pull within 3 at 29-26 but Jared Higgins and Arnzen each scored to push the lead back to 7 with 3 seconds left. Unfortunately the Pirates committed a foul on the ensuing inbounds play and Genesee cut 2 points off the lead after the buzzer had sounded.
In the third quarter Genesee was able to outscore Prairie 4-9, thanks to 7 points from senior Reggie Tilleman, and tie the score at 37 with 3:50 left in the quarter. The other 2 points came from Beau Tilleman on a dunk that appeared to spark the Pirates more than it did the Bulldogs.
After Genesee tied the score, Prairie went on the aforementioned 10-0 run that turned into a 16-2 run.
10 of those 16 points came at the free throw line including a perfect 6 for 6 by Schlader.
Prairie led 51-39 heading into the fourth quarter and it become 53-39 after Ross hit a pair at the line early in the fourth quarter.
Genesee then put together what would be their final rally as they outscored Prairie 2-10 to pull within 6 at 55-49 with 3:10 left. Helping the Bulldogs cause in that run were some missed Pirate free throws as Prairie cooled down from their 8 for 8 third quarter. Bruner and Jared Higgins finally broke the bad run of free throws as each hit a pair to push the lead back to 10 at 59-49 with 2:48 left.
Prairie then worked the clock and were able to keep Genesee from getting any closer than 9 the rest of the way.
Schlader wound up with 20 points to lead Prairie in scoring. Bruner scored 15, Arnzen 12, Ross 8 and Higgins and Hankerson 4 each.
Reggie Tilleman scored 27 to lead Genesee with brother Beau adding 13. The rest of the Genesee team combined for just 13 points.
Prairie held a slim 36-35 rebounding edge with Arnzen grabbing 11 and Bruner 10.
Bruner, Schlader and Arnzen each had 3 steals and Higgins had 7 assists.

A big difference was turnovers where Genesee had 20 to just 7 for Prairie.
With the wins Prairie is now 10-0 overall and 5-0 in league play.
Tyler Hankerson goes for a lay-up against Genesee.Prairie also won a hard fought JV game 64-56.

Genesee quickly tied it with a 3 to open the second but Prairie went on a 7-0 run with Hinkelman scoring 4 of those.
Over the rest of the half and in the third quarter Genesee was content to bomb away from beyond the 3-point arc while Prairie was going to the hoop. Prairie’s strategy worked better in the second quarter as they held a 33-25 halftime lead. 4 of Genesee’s 5 second quarter baskets were 3-pointers.
In the third quarter Prairie led by as many as 11 at 42-31 before Genesee started connecting on the 3-pointers again. Genesee’s next four baskets were all 3’s and they were able to pull within 2 at 48-46 by the end of the quarter.
Genesee’s shooting cooled off in the fourth quarter and Prairie hit 8 of 13 free throws to hold on for the 8-point win.
