Escapees
are recaptured
On January 18, at 12:05 A.M., The Idaho County Sheriff’s Dispatch Center was notified of the escape of two inmates from the North Idaho Correctional Institution (NICI) in Cottonwood, Idaho. Ridge Scott Dains and Caleb Joe Thomas were identified as the escapees. Dains is incarcerated for burglary. Dains has a history of Battery, Theft, False Info to Officer, Resisting or Obstructing, Probation Violation, Possession of Controlled Substance and other lesser charges. Thomas is incarcerated for Grand Theft, Arson and Destruction, Alteration or Concealment of Evidence. Thomas has a history of Theft, Eluding, Burglary, Possession and Delivery of Controlled substance and Probation Violations . On January 19, at 6:00 P.M., the Idaho County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a vehicle stolen from a Canyon Road residence. Idaho County Sheriff’s personnel processed the scene and found the resident was also missing firearms and ammunition. Clothing found at the scene matched that worn by the inmates when they were reported as escaped. The new information was entered in the Law Enforcement National Crime Information Center computer system. At 8:30 A.M. Monday, January 20, Walla Walla County, WA, advised they had the two subjects in custody in addition to recovering the vehicle and firearms. Dains and Thomas are being extradited to Idaho County to face Escape charges.
