Farm
Bureau offers student contests
Idaho Farm Bureau has some opportunities for grade school students to write an essay or draw a picture and compete for prize money. The Essay Contest for all fifth grade students, public, private or home-schooled, is being held now until March 1, 2014. Each school has been sent information and entry forms. The theme is How Agriculture Affects Me. Get the rules from your teacher and begin writing. The Art Design Contest is for sixth through eighth grade students, public, private or home-schooled, with the deadline of March 1, 2014. The theme is Idaho Agriculture, so draw your favorite Ag-related picture and enter the contest and compete for prize money. Get the rules from your teacher. Every year Idaho County Farm Bureau awards three college scholarships, $1,000 each, to seniors, or students already in college, who have filled out an application and met the requirements, to compete with other applicants. The scholarships are awarded based on need, scholastic ability and interest. Applications must be in by March 15, 2014. Again this year is the Teacher Mini Grant available to a teacher for a project that they would be otherwise unable to complete. This grant is aimed at the teacher to help with Ag-related materials for the classroom. Applications must be submitted by March 15, 2014. The Photo Contest is open to amateur Idaho resident photographers only. The types of pictures accepted are: black & white, color prints or slides. Digital photos will no longer be accepted. Photographers are limited to three photos per year. The deadline is September 2, 2014. Home –school students may contact me for applications on these contests.
