Girls
District tournaments start this week
The girls District Basketball Tournaments get underway this week at the LCSC Activity Center. The brackets are quite a bit different this year with 3 loser out games quickly whittling the field down to just 4 teams. In the 1-A division 1 tournament Prairie will be the #2 seed and won’t start play until Saturday, Feb. 8. Although Prairie and Lapwai tied for first, Lapwai has the tiebreaker in their favor. On Thursday, Feb. 6 and Friday, Feb. 7 there will be 3 single elimination games. Kamiah vs. Troy on Thursday, with that winner playing #3 seed Genesee on Friday, and Potlatch playing C.V., also on Friday. As the #2 seed Prairie would play the highest surviving seed, likely Genesee. at 7:30 p.m. Lapwai would play the other survivor at 6 p.m. Saturday’s winners will both clinch state berths and will play for the District championship at 5 p.m. Monday, Feb. 10. Saturday’s losers will play at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 13 with the winner of that game playing the District 1 champ at St. Maries on Saturday, Feb. 15 at 6 p.m. In the 1-A division 2 tournament Summit is the #3 seed and will open play Friday, Feb. 7th against the Deary-Timberline winner in a loser-out game at 5 p.m. If they win that game they would play #2 seeded Nezperce at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 8. Saturday’s winners play Monday, Feb. 10 at 8 p.m. for the District championship and a trip to state. Saturday’s losers play at 6:30 p.m. Monday with the winner of that game playing the championship game loser at 6 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 13. That winner advances to a state play-in game at St. Maries Saturday, Feb. 15 at 4 p.m. |
