A river of water flows past Fred’s Body Shop in downtown Cottonwood at about 6 p.m. Monday evening. Cottonwood Police Chief Terry Cochran reported Tuesday morning that apparently little water got into any of the Main St. buildings thanks in large part to their plan of action for such a situation. Some water got into the Fred’s Body Shop before they got a dam built up in front of the doors. At Harman Agency water got right up to the lip of the doorway but didn’t get in. Donn Clark set up a loader in front of Hoene Hardware to divert water from the store. Photo by Judy Klapprich Uhlenkott. See article at left for more photos. Click on the photo for a  larger view.

Shown are the Students of the month for February at Prairie Junior/Senior High School.  High School students of the month from left are Kirsten Latimer, Joseph Halligan and Casey Danly. Junior High Student of the month Kendra Duclos is at far right. Kirsten comes to class prepared and always has a positive attitude.  She always knows what the due dates for her assignments are so she never has to be reminded to get things done.  She works hard on her classwork, but when she is caught up; she does work for other classes and is never idle.  She is also willing to help other students if needed. Joseph engages in the learning process thoughtfully. He works wholeheartedly, is kind to all around him.  Casey is a hard worker and very responsible.  He always has a smile and is great to have in class. Kendra Duclos is an outstanding student who takes pride in her work and always strives to excel.  She is helpful to others and respectful to her teachers and peers. February attendance winners Brooklyn Riener and Anna Kaschmitter. Phoenix Lemus was a January attendance winner. Students who attend all week have their names put in a drawing.  Each month two names are drawn and the students have lunch with the principal at a restaurant of their choice. Mrs. Schumacher's first grade class won first place in Prairie Elementary School's Box Top contest.  Every year we hold a contest to see which class turns in the most box tops.  Each box top is worth ten cents.  Mrs. Schumacher's class earned $299.20 for the school which means they tuned in 2,292 box tops!!  They will receive a super bounce party later this spring.  There was a tie for second place between Mrs. Kim Schumacher's third/fourth grade class and Mrs. Vikki Riener's third grade class each earning $196.90.  They will also each have a super bounce party!  Our Elementary School earned over $1400 this school year so far earning EVERY class at the school an ice cream party!! This money goes 100% to the school.  We have put all money earned over the last few years towards the school's new playground equipment.  This is a great and easy way for our school to earn extra money.  If you have any extra box tops you can turn them in to Lynn Rehder in the front office at the Elementary school any time during the school day.  Congratulations to ALL the kids at the elementary school. Photo by Sherry Holthaus.
