The Primary Election is set for next Tuesday, May 20 with a school levy and statewide, legislative district, county and judicial offices up for election. School District #242 has a supplemental levy election with an amount of $350,000 being asked for. This is $37,000 less than last year’s override due in large part to the district taking the funds from the sale of the old Kindergarten building and spreading it out over this and the next 2 years to reduce the levy amounts. There are two contested judicial elections. In the Second Judicial District John Bradbury is seeking to unseat incumbent Jeff M. Brudie. For the State Supreme Court, William “Breck” Seininger is seeking to unseat current justice Joel Horton. The other judges, two each for the second judicial district and the state supreme court, are unopposed. In the main primary the Democratic ballot has just 3 contested races, all for statewide offices. William Bryk and Nels Mitchell are both seeking the Democratic nomination for Senator. Ryan Andrew Barone and Shirley Ringo are both seeking the Democratic nomination for First District U.S. Congressman. A.J. Balukoff and Terry Kerr are both seeking the Democratic nomination for Governor. Deborah Silver and W. Lane Startin are both seeking the Democratic nomination for state Treasurer. The Republican ballot has a lot more contested races with at least 4 candidates vying for the nomination in four of the statewide races. The Republican ballot also has the only contested race at the County level as Abbie Hudson is challenging Deanna Hall for the Idaho County Treasurer position. Hall was appointed to serve out the term when Sharon Cox retired. The Republican ballot also has the only contested race for a state legislative position as Shauna Hillman is challenging incumbent Shannon McMillan for District 7, Position A State Representative. To the statewide races. Jeremy “T” Anderson is challenging incumbent Jim Risch for the Republican nomination for US Senator. Sean Blackwell, Michael Greenway, Lisa Marie and Reed C. McCandless are all challenging incumbent Raul Labrador for the Republican nomination for First District U.S. Congressman. Walt Bayes, Harley D. Brown and Russell M. Fulcher are all challenging incumbent C.L. “Butch” Otter for the Republican nomination for Governor. Jim Chmelik is challenging incumbent Brad Little to be the Republican nominee for Lieutenant Governor. Lawerence E. Denney, Evan S. Frasure, Phil McGrane and Mitch Toryanski are all vying for the Republican nomination for Secretary of State. Todd Hatfield is challenging incumbent Brandon Woolf to be the Republican nominee for State Controller. C.T. “Chris” Troupis is challenging incumbent Lawrence Wasden to the be Republican nominee for Attorney General. Finally, John R. Eynon, Andrew Grover, Randy Jensen and Sherri Ybarra are all vying for the Republican nomination for Superintendent of Public Instruction. Polls are open next Tuesday from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. |
