Softball awards were handed out last Wednesday. Ulmer is idahosports.com 1-A girls student-athlete of the year Idahosports.com instituted a student-athlete of the year award this year, 1 each for a boy and girl in each classification. Kyndahl Ulmer of Prairie was named as the 1A girls student-athlete of the year. Ulmer, an 18 year old graduate at Prairie High School, received most of her schooling at Kamiah, transferring to Prairie this past fall due to circumstances at Kamiah that led her parents to move their children to Prairie. She joined the Prairie volleyball team for the last several matches then helped the girls basketball team to their 9th state title. She played for a championship 4 straight years. At Kamiah she lost to Grangeville as a freshman, to Butte County as a sophomore before beating Lapwai as a junior. At Prairie she helped the Pirates beat Lapwai. She was named the 1A, Division 1 player of the year each of the past two seasons. Ulmer will be continuing her basketball career at Lewis-Clark State College where she will be studying physical therapy with an eye towards becoming a sports physical therapist. Ulmer was nominated for the Idahosports.com award by PHS principal Carrie Nygaard and was the only winner from the Pacific Time Zone portion of the state. |
