Crop tour set for Tuesday
The Prairie Area Cover Crop Tour is slated for Tuesday, July 29. The tour will begin with registration, coffee, juice and doughnuts at 8:30 a.m. at the Lewis County Extension Office in Nezperce. Participants will board a bus that departs at 9 a.m. The tour will visit two cover crop grazing demonstrations. Both sites employ management intensive grazing principles on cover crops. Seeding dates and other management tools will be compared. The tour will then move to the Prairie Area Cover Crop research and demonstration site near Nezperce. This site features several new research studies including a five-year rotation study with various cover crop management and fertility treatments. A seeding date study, single species demonstration plots and cover crop mixes demonstrations round out the tour. University of Idaho Extension personnel and NRCS staff will present information. The tour will conclude by noon. Participants are asked to pre-register by July 25th by calling the Lewis County Extension Office at 208-937-2311 to help us get a count for the tour. You may also register the morning of the tour. Certified Crop Advisor and pesticide applicator credits are applied for. The tour is present in cooperation with University of Idaho Extension, Lewis Soil Conservation District, REACCH, Lewis County Wheat Growers, Idaho/Lewis Crops Extension Advisory Committee, and Idaho County Grain Producers. Persons with disabilities requesting reasonable accommodations need to contact the Lewis County Extension Office by Friday, July 25th at 208-937-2311. |
