moves to current location in 1960
In 1960 the Idaho County Stock Show moved from Main Street in Cottonwood to its present location. From the Chronicle in 1960: The Stock Show dates this year are Sept. 8-10 and swine entered as exhibits must have health certificates to prevent the spread of diseases. Constructed for this year’s fair is a pole frame building to be used as an exhibit hall on the Idaho County Stock Show grounds near Cottonwood. Miss Beverly Miller, 17, of Cottonwood has been selected the 1960 Stock Show Queen. 1961: Miss Faye Bunting of Grangeville is the 1961 Idaho County Stock Show Queen. Show dates are Sept. 7-9. Concrete has been poured in a new 96x50 foot exhibit hall at the Stock Show grounds. Booths and tables also are to be used in the new hall. For the first time in the 28-year history of the Stock Show, all activities can take place in one location—at the new fairgrounds on North King Street. Joe Riener, buildings and grounds chairman, had a lot to do with getting all of the area ready for the 1961 fair. The Greencreek 4-H Club had the top award winning float in the parades. Champion 4-H stock shown: Pat Long, sheep; Gary Crea, Swine; Marilyn Lance, heifer and Robert Johnston, dairy heifer. Billy Hollandsworth had the Champion steer. 1962: Miss Lunda Schumacher was selected the 1962 Idaho County Stock Show Queen . Show dates are Sept. 6-8. A new event this year will be a tractor pulling contest sponsored by the Cottonwood Jaycees. 1963: The 1963 Stock Show will be Aug. 29-31. The queen’s dance is to be Aug. 24 at the Community Hall. Miss Louise Jenny of Cottonwood was selected the 1963 Stock Show Queen. The 4-H champion livestock winners were Terry Vanderwall, beef steer; Gary Crea, swine; Mary Jane Hollandsworth, beef fitter and show and Gordon Simler, lamb. 1964: Miss Kathy McDonald has been chosen the 1964 Idaho County Fair Queen (making this year not only the 80th anniversary of the event but the 50th anniversary of the event being called the Idaho County Fair). The fair dates are Sept. 3-5, Thursday, Friday and Saturday. Joe Riener is the Idaho County Fair Board Chairman this year. Space has been requested from club ladies and from commercial groups for display space this year said Mrs. Rosa Smith, county home agent. The first parade will be Friday evening at 6 p.m. The Jaycettes will sponsor a breakfast Saturday morning in the park to start that day’s events. Names have been given to exhibit buildings: The Joe Riener Exhibit Building, association president from 196-64; The Joe Enneking Exhibit Building, chairman from 1953-56; and the Carl Jentges Exhibit Building, chairman from 1957-60. 1965: The 1965 Idaho County Fair will be Sept. 2, 3 and 4. Miss Elaine Zehner of Grangeville was selected the 1965 Idaho County Fair Queen. |
