turn out for PHS volleyball
There are 21 players out for volleyball this year at Prairie High School with the varsity carrying 9 players and the rest on the JV. Prairie returns 5 of the 7 starters (counting the Libero) from last year’s team that narrowly missed going to state. Seniors Natasha Gimmeson and Kayla Schumacher return along with juniors Shayla VonBargen, Hailey Danly and Krystin Uhlenkott. Stepping into the starting lineup are seniors Holli Uhlorn and Kellie Heitman. Also on the varsity and likely to get a lot of playing time are junior Sarah Seubert and sophomore Chaye Uptmor. Gimmeson and Danly return as the setters with Uhlenkott as an outside hitter. Schumacher moves to an outside hitter spot with VonBargen returning as a middle with Uhlorn at the other middle spot. Heitman will be the libero a position she played on the JV team last year. Seubert will be a back row player/outside hitter. Prairie looked strong at the jamboree in Grangeville Tuesday, August 26 but in the White Pine League you have to get past Genesee and Troy although this year the third place team at district will have a chance to advance to state in a pair of play-in games. First they would have to play at Wallace on Thursday, Oct. 23 and then the winner of that would play the third place team from District 3 on Oct. 25 for a berth at State. If the WPL team beats Wallace the Oct. 25 game would likely be at Cascade. If Wallace wins that match would be at Grangeville. JV players this year are junior Sierra Latimer, sophomores Darlene Gehring, Sam Remacle, Mykaela McWilliams and Britney Bianchi and freshmen Josie Peery, Leah Higgins, Angela Wemhoff, Trista Latimer, Sydney Bruner, Jade Peery and Alexis Shears. Cheyenne Hudson returns as head coach with Marlene Forsmann as assistant coach. Photos from the Jamboree at Grangeville August 26
