Cottonwood
City Council meets
The Cottonwood City Council held their November meeting Monday, Nov. 10. In the water report Pat Holthaus noted they pumped around 2.8 million gallons and sold about 2.6 million. After accounting for know unmetered amounts that means about 192,000 gallons lost which is down from the usual 300,000 they have been experiencing. That amounted to a 6 percent loss. The water line project on 1st Street South has some connections that need to be finished and some more testing and then they’ll be able to abandon the old line. Roy Uhlenkott said they discovered the old line has a leak so that may bring the water loss down even more. In the sewer report Ron Grant said they are looking into some floating aerators which could help reduce the sludge buildup. Removing the sludge is a major expense for the sewer department. Jack Duman reported he is working on getting things lined up for next summer’s resurfacing projects. He got a chance to chat with the Idaho Transportation Department representative from Craigmont and talked about the storm drains along King Street. He was informed once the ITD engineers looked into that it became a multi-million dollar project. It’s not off the table completely as they may look to break it down into several smaller projects over several years time. He also said the Ferdinand and Evergreen Highway Districts are looking into some CRABS BST projects and maybe the City could piggyback onto those to get reduced costs for materials for all entities involved. That kind of project is what the City did on Foster St. and in the Terrace addition. Shelli Schumacher was absent but Carol Altman reported they have put bids out for architects for the continuation of the Hall basement project. She said she and Schumacher have also attended a CEDA training. Similar trainings will continue monthly, usually online. Grant reported the Fire Department had 3 calls in the past month. One was a false alarm. The other two were a vehicle fire in town and a dumpster fire out of town. He said they are still in the process of selling the two engines that have been replaced. The old ones have had the water drained from them and are now outside while the two new engines are inside the Fire Station. Altman talked about a challenged received by District 2 from District 6 at the city clerks meeting. It is for a pay-it-forward project and she thought maybe a canned food drive. She thought February or March would be a better time as everybody else has canned food drives this time of year and after the holidays the local food bank gets depleted. After discussion the council members thought it would be a good idea to bring items to each meeting and asked Altman to put a reminder in the agendas she sends out. Mayor Denis Duman and Grant discussed the agriforest tree proposal they received. Duman said when the agriforest was first designed it was way overengineered for what was actually needed. They would like to see if they could take a portion that is sparse on trees and maybe plant some other species and see if that would help with the bug problem. The difficulty may come in getting Division of Environmental Quality approval as there is little to no data on any trees other than the poplars they are using. In final business a property site in town that is drawing neighbor complaints was discussed. Mayor Duman will see if he can meet with the owner and discuss the problem. The meeting adjourned at 7:55 p.m. The next regular meeting is scheduled for Monday, December 8 at 7 p.m. |
