Awards were given out Monday, Nov. 17, for the Prairie Volleyball team. The award winners shown were voted on by the team. From left are Tasha Gimmeson, co-most inspirational; Kayla Schumacher, most valuable; Holli Uhlorn, co-most improved; Krystin Uhlenkott, co-most inspirational and Chaye Uptmor, co-most improved. Statistical winners (not all shown) were Hailey Danly for most aces and most assists; Uptmor for most digs with Danly 2nd; Uhlenkott for most kills with Schumacher 2nd; Uhlorn and Shayla VonBargen tied for most blocks and VonBargen was second in aces and Gimmeson was second in assists. There are 23 girls turned out for basketball at Prairie High School this season. There are 2 starters back from the 2014 state championship team, senior Kayla Schumacher and junior Krystin Uhlenkott. Despite losing 3 starters Prairie is expected to be competitive for one of the 3 state tournament spots available Basketball will be just like volleyball in that the top two finishers at District advance to State while the third place team has to play at Wallace and then at Cascade in a pair of play-in games to make it to State. Lapwai would have to be considered the favorite with nearly everyone back from last year’s state runner-up except for the coach. The only other full time varsity player returning from last year’s team is junior Hailey Danly. Senior Natasha Gimmeson, juniors Sarah Seubert and Shayla VonBargen and sophomores Kylie Tidwell and Chaye Uptmor saw action last year at both the varsity and JV level. Junior Talyss Lustig probably would have been a swing player last year but for an injury that kept her out of action the latter part of the season. Freshmen Angela Wemhoff and Josie Peery fill out the varsity roster. Peery, Seubert, Lustig and Tidwell will also see some time on the JV squad this season. Also on the JV team are junior Sierra Latimer, sophomores, Sam Remacle, Selena Davila, and Summit transfer Ally Sonnen and freshmen Leah Higgins, Sydney Bruner, Alexis Shears, Delaney Uhlenkott, Sierah Poxleitner, Jade Peery, Sarah Ross and Trista Latimer. Sonnen is playing with Prairie this year as Summit was unable to field a team due to lack of players.
