improve to 5-0
The Prairie boys basketball team blew through three league opponents this past week to improve to 5-0 on the season. On Tuesday, Dec. 16 they doubled up Troy 65-32 at Troy. On Thursday, Dec. 18 they clobbered Kamiah in their home opener 60-26. Finally at Genesee on Friday, Dec. 19 they knocked off Genesee 70-41. Prairie jumped out to a 19-4 lead after 1 quarter and led 39-12 at the half. They kept it going in the third as they built a 61-20 lead after three quarter and then coasted to the win under a running clock in the fourth quarter. Also scoring in double figures was Jake Bruner with 16 points. Lucas Arnzen scored 7, Calvin Hinkelman 6, Tanner Ross 5, Brandon Higgins 4, Terran Perry and Devin Bruegeman 2 each and Bryson Higgins 1. Ross had 8 rebounds to lead the team. Prairie blitzed Kamiah 19-1 in the first quarter and extended the lead to 38-9 at the half. They led 57-17 after 3 quarters. Schlader again led the scoring with 16 points. Bruner added 14, Arnzen 13, Mager 7, Bryson Higgins 4, and Peery, Ross and Hinkelman 2 each. Mager had 11 rebounds. The JV team also won big by a 52-28 count. Schlader scored a career high 34 points which including four 3-pointers to lead the way for the Pirates. Genesee held a 10-11 lead early on but Schlader scored a pair of 2-point baskets then picked up a rare 4-point play when he was fouled on a made 3-pointer that put Prairie up 18-11. The Pirates led by 5 at the end of the first quarter but stifling defensive pressure that forced numerous turnovers in the second quarter helped Prairie to a 43-19 lead at the half. Prairie continued to pull away in the second half and played the fourth quarter under running clock rules. Peery was also in double figures for the Pirates with 11 points with Bruner scoring 9, Arnzen 7, Ross 4, Bryson Higgins 3 and Mager 2. Prairie is now 5-0 overall and 3-0 in league play. Pirates to play at Coeur d'Alene Tournament The Prairie boys basketball team will take part in the Coeur d’Alene Inn-vitational Holiday Classic at North Idaho College next Monday through Wednesday, Dec. 29-31. Their opening game will be at 3:30 p.m. Monday, Dec. 29 against Wilson High School out of Seattle. With a win they would face the Coeur d’Alene vs. Ridgeview (out of Portland) winner at 7:45 p.m. Tuesday evening. With a loss they would play the CdA-Ridgeview loser at 1:45 p.m. Tuesday. Two losses would have them playing at noon on Wednesday. A loss and then a win and they would play at 1:45 Wednesday.
