Lady Pirates win two league games
The Prairie Lady Pirates won a pair of league game this past week, beating Troy 74-33 at Cottonwood, Tuesday, Jan. 13 and then beating Clearwater Valley at Kooskia 55-24 Friday, Jan. 16.
Vs. Troy
The game against Troy was close for only the first 4 minutes as Prairie led just 7-6 after a Troy basket at the 4:18 mark of the 1st quarter. Prairie then finished the quarter with a 10-0 run and scored the first 2 of the second quarter to take a 19-6 lead.Kayla Schumacher makes a pass in Prairie’s home game against Troy.
Chaye Uptmor and Shayla VonBargen each scored 2 baskets in that 12-0 run while Angela Wemhoff and Krystin Uhlenkott each scored a lay-up off of a steal.
After making her basket Uhlenkott picked up her third foul and had to sit out the rest of the half.
Kayla Schumacher was a little slow getting started offensively. She didn’t score her first points until the 5:44 mark of the second quarter on a perimeter shot that put Prairie up 24-9. That got her started though and she wound up scoring 9 points in the quarter as Prairie took a 37-17 lead at the half.
Prairie kept the lead at about 20 points in the third quarter until with 521 left Hailey Danly sank a pair of free throws that kicked off a 16-0 run for the Pirates that pushed their lead to 60-21. VonBargen hit 4 straight shots in the quarter while Schumacher added 6, Danly 5 and Uhlenkott 4 as Prairie took a 64-23 lead into the fourth quarter.
Troy scored the first 7 points of a running clock 4th quarter but Prairie then finished the game with a 10-3 run to win by 41.
VonBargen had 20 points, 11 rebounds and 9 steals, just missing a triple double. Schumacher had a double-double with 17 points and 18 rebounds. Uhlenkott also hit double figures with 12 points while Wemhoff and Uptmor 8 each, Danly 7 and Josie Peery 2.
Prairie dominated on the boards 55-36.
Schumacher and Wemhoff each added 4 steals to VonBargen’s total as Prairie forced 27 turnovers. Schumacher had 5 assists and Uptmor had 4. Prairie had just 6 turnovers in the game.
Prairie was 32 for 83 from the field, 39%, and 9 for 17 at the line, 53%. Troy was 12 for 48 from the field, 25%, and 7 for 12 at the line, 58%.
The JV game was as lopsided as any in Prairie’s history as the Pirates rolled to a 51-2 victory. The first time they played was a blowout at 47-16 but nothing like this game.
Troy made just 1 of 28 shot attempts and turned the ball over 36 times, 17 in the first quarter.
Troy’s only basket came with 1:00 left in the first half and they did not even attempt a free throw.
Prairie’s starting unit rolled to a 22-0 lead by the end of the first quarter and it was entirely reserves that played in the second quarter and outscored Troy 18-2 to take a 40-2 halftime lead.
It was 7-0 in the third quarter and 4-0 in the fourth with everybody on the roster getting substantial playing time. 
Sarah Seubert was the leading scorer with 9 points with Selina Davila, who got her first start of the season, and Sierah Poxleitner scoring 8 points each. Kylie Tidwell, Sydney Bruner, Alexis Shears and Ally Sonnen scored 4 each. Delaney Uhlenkott and Sam Remacle scored 3 each and Jade Peery scored 2.
Prairie had a 50-29 advantage on the boards with Sonnen coming off the bench to grab 11 to lead the team. Davila had 7 and Remacle 6.
Remacle had 5 steals while Davila and Poxleitner had 4 each. Sonnen had 3 assists and Remacle had 2.
Prairie was 23 for 77 from the field, 30%, and 5 for 13 at the line, 38%. Troy was 1 for 28 from the field, 4%, and had no free throw attempts.

At C.V.
At C.V. a 21-6 first quarter and a 17-2 third quarter led to Prairie’s huge win.
Shayla VonBargen worked her way free from a couple of C.V. defenders for this lay-up she was 5 for 6 from both the field and at the line for 15 points in the game.Along the way Prairie connected on seven 3-pointers in the game, which just might be a team record.
Uptmor started the 3-point barrage with a shot from the corner off an inbounds feed from Danly for the first points of the game. She added another trey about 3 minutes later as she went 4 for 4 in the first quarter to get Prairie off to a strong start.
Uhlenkott joined the 3-point barrage when she banked one in to end the first quarter scoring.
Prairie struggled on offense in the second quarter as they came up with just 7 points while C.V. connected on a pair of 3 pointers of their own but Prairie still led 28-15 at the half.
Danly sank her own 3-pointer to open the third quarter scoring and after a C.V. basket, Prairie reeled off 14 straight points which included a pair of 3-pointers by Schumacher who had not scored at all in the first half.
Prairie took a 45-17 lead in to the fourth quarter. 
The game went to running clock mode at the 6:19 mark when Josie Peery scored to put Prairie up 49-19. Later in the fourth Uhlenkott scored her second banked-in 3-pointer for Prairie’s 7th of the game.
While the rest of the team was bombing in 3-pointers, VonBargen provided the inside scoring as she hit on 5 of 6 shots and also went 5 for 6 at the line for a team high 15 points
Uhlenkott added 12 points with Uptmor scoring 10, Schumacher 9, Peery 4, Danly 3 and Seubert 2.
Prairie had a 37-22 edge on the board with Schumacher grabbing 9 and VonBargen 8.
Uhlenkott had 3 steals while Uptmor had 2. Danly had 5 assists.
Prairie was 20 for 50 from the field, 40%, and 7 for 15 from 3-point range, 47%. They were 8 for 10 at the line, 80%. C.V. was 9 for 35 from the field, 26%, and 5 for 10 at the line, 50%.
Prairie is now 14-2 on the season and 9-1 in league play.
In the JV game Prairie scored the first 19 points of the game on their way to a 52-11 rout of the Rams.
Prairie forced 16 first quarter turnovers from the Rams JV, many of which led to points on Prairie’s end. Leah Higgins scored 6 with Josie Peery scoring 5 and Davila 4.
C.V. finally got on the scoreboard with 3 seconds left in the quarter to make it 19-2.
C.V. scored the first 2 points of the second quarter then Prairie finished the half with 17 straight points and started the second half with another 10 straight for a 27-0 run. Prairie led 36-4 at the half and 46-5 after 3 quarters.
Davila wound up as the leading scorer with 8 points as she is developing into more of a dominating presence inside with each game. Peery scored 7, Higgins and Ally Sonnen 6 each, Bruner, Talyss Lustig and Sierra Latimer 4 each, Uhlenkott 3 and Shears, Remacle, Poxleitner and Sarah Ross 2 each.
The JV’s dominated the boards 37-21. Higgins, Sonnen and Peery had 6 rebounds each.
Peery had 6 steals while Davila had 5 and Poxleitner, Latimer and Lustig had 4 each. 7 different players had an assist with Poxleitner the only player with more than 1 as she had 2.
Prairie was 24 for 66 from the field, 36%, and 4 for 19 at the line, 21%. C.V. was 5 for 13 from the field, 38%, and 1 for 2 at the line, 50%.

Girls game at Kamiah moved to Friday
The girls varsity game scheduled from Saturday, Jan. 24 at Kamiah has been moved to Friday night as a varsity only game at 7:30 p.m. The girls game will follow the Prairie boys games that evening with the boys JV moved up to 4:30 and the boys varsity set for 6 p.m.
