With the help of parent and community volunteers, all staff from Prairie Elementary School were able to attend a math conference in Coeur d'Alene.  At 12:00 on Friday January 23, all staff boarded a bus for Coeur d'Alene ready for a 5:00 p.m. start to the conference. The conference began with a keynote from Dr. Nicole Miller Rigelman, an associate professor at Portland State University.  She stressed the importance of curriculum materials on student and teacher learning, mathematical reasoning, and problem solving as it relates to standards implementation and assessment.   On Saturday the day started with  a follow-up from Dr. Nicole Rigelman leading into break out sessions for K-2, 3-5, 6-8 and 9-12.   Staff from north and central Idaho were in attendance.  Idaho's Institutions of Higher Education along with the State Department of Education have partnered to support the Idaho Regional Mathematics Centers.  Through this  collaborative and comprehensive statewide effort, the Idaho Regional Mathematics Centers strive to ensure that Idaho's teachers of mathematics are highly talented, trained and effective professionals.
