The Summit Patriots ended their regular season with a pair of road wins and clinched the White Pine League Div. 2 championship along the way. On Wednesday, Feb. 11 they concluded their league season with a 49-30 win at Highland that clinched the league championship. On Thursday, Feb. 12 they traveled to Kooskia for a non-league matchup against Clearwater Valley and won 63-46. Summit turned it up in the middle two quarters though. The Patriots outscored Highland 11-5 in the second quarter including a buzzer-beating 3-pointer by Tyler Krogh that gave them their 15-10 halftime lead. Summit then pulled away in the third period, outscoring the Huskies 21-10 to take a 36-20 lead in to the final 8 minutes. Krogh had 13 points to lead the Patriots in scoring while Patrick Chmelik had another double-double with 11 points and 11 rebounds and flirted with a tripl-double as he blocked 6 shots. Josh Lustig added 8 points with Thomas Schwartz scoring 6, Dean Stubbers 5, Chris Osborne 4 and Nathan Beckman 2. Beckman notched 5 of Summit’s 20 steals in the game. C.V. kept within range in the third quarter as they trailed 38-32 at the end of the third. C.V. ran out of steam in the fourth as Summit outscored them 25-14 to pull away for the win. Summit had 3 players in double figures with Chmelik and Lustig each scoring 14 and Krogh 13. Chmelik also chipped in 16 rebounds and he and Osborne had 4 blocked shots each. Additional scoring came from Beckman with 9, Stubbers with 7 and Osborne with 6. Summit closes out their regular season with a 15-4 overall record, 10-1 in league play. They will open District play as the #1 seed Thursday, Feb. 19 at 7 p.m. against either Highland or Deary. Summit’s JVs also closed out their season with a win as they knocked off C.V. 49-33.
