Lady
Pirates are 1-1 on the week
The Prairie Lady Pirates split their two games this past week, winning a non-league game over Kendrick 15-9 on Thursday, April 16 before dropping a 0-3 game to Genesee in a battle of league unbeatens on Saturday, April 18. Both games were at Cottonwood. Kendrick answered with 5 runs of their own in the fourth but Prairie answered with 3 runs in the bottom of the fourth to make it 12-6. Kendrick added a single run each in the fifth, sixth and seventh while Prairie bunched up their final 3 runs into the bottom of the sixth. Faith Uhlenkott gave up 9 runs on 10 hits. Prairie pounded out 11 hits with Hailey Danly having a triple and a single and Hanna Ross a double and single. Kylie Tidwell, Faith Uhlenkott, Holli Uhlorn, Abbie Uhlenkott and Kellie Heitman each had a single. Kendrick 1 0 0 5 1 1 1— 9 10 5 Prairie 1 3 5 3 0 3 x—15 11 5 Genesee scored all 3 runs in the top of the first thanks to a couple of errors. Genesee got a leadoff bloop hit with the batter stealing second. Pitcher Faith Uhlenkott then got what should have been an infield groundout but first baseman Sarah Seubert was called for pulling her foot off the bag on the throw as she saw the runner on second breaking for third. Instead of 1 out and a runner on third there were now no outs and runners on first and third and after a stolen base, second and third. That was big as Uhlenkott struck out the next two batters and should have been out of the inning. A 2-run double down the left field line scored both runners and a dropped fly ball in center scored the third run. Uhlenkott shut down Genesee the rest of the way allowing just 4 more hits and 5 walks with only 1 more runner getting as far as third base. Meanwhile Prairie’s offense struggled against Genesee’s Kayla Cornell, who has done a great job shutting down the Priarie offense the past two years. Hailey Danly got a 1 out triple to center in the first but was stranded. In the third Tidwell got a 1 out single and Danly walked but a groundout got Genesee out of the inning. In the sixth Ross singled up the middle and Seubert added a single to left but the next batter hit a short pop fly to second and Seubert got doubled off as she was running with the pitch. Finally in the seventh Prairie got the tying run to the plate as Uhlorn walked and Heitman singled to right but a groundout to first ended the game. Uhlenkott wound up allowing 3 unearned runs on 6 hits with 6 walks and 3 strikeouts. Prairie had 5 hits, a triple by Danly and a single each by Tidwell, Ross, Seubert and Heitman. Prairie is now 10-3 on the season and 4-1 in league play. Genesee 3 0 0 0 0 0 0—3 6 1 Prairie 0 0 0 0 0 0 0—0 5 3
