Congratulations to our May “Students of the Month.” From left are Madison Hinkelman, junior high and Ryan Glimp and Mykaela McWilliams, high school. Maddie is fun loving and kind hearted.  Maddie  works hard every day to improve academically.  She is not afraid to tackle whatever is placed before her. Maddie is a great example for her classmates. Ryan is a mature young adult who always makes great decisions.  He depicts respect and integrity at all times. Mykaela is a fantastic artist, a straight “A” student and an excellent athlete in volleyball and track! Photo provided by Ryan Hasselstrom. Click on the photo for a larger view.

The 6th grade science class from Prairie Elementary enjoyed studying their unit on simple machines. After studying levers (1st, 2nd and 3rd class), pulleys, wheel and axle, incline planes, ramps, screws, and wedges they had the opportunity to build a compound machine. Using Kinex’s, teams built items such as a hand mixer (that turned with a battery pack), an elevator, a crane, a sailboat, a stethoscope, bulldozer, and a tractor with a lift.  These items were on display at the Prairie’s Elementary Spring Concert. Each team was thrilled in building their machines and seeing them work correctly. Maybe, some of the students will see that mechanical engineering might be a career for them. Austin Sonnen of Prairie High School was this year’s recipient of the Grange Insurance Association’s Top Vocational Scholarship for $2,500.  This is the top scholarship awarded annually by Grange Insurance Association out of their six state region that includes California, Colorado, Idaho, Oregon, Washington and Wyoming.  Austin is the son of Steve and Sue Sonnen of Greencreek Idaho.  He will be attending Lewis-Clark State College this fall. Picture from left are Gordon Harman, Sonnen and Pepper Harman. Click on the photo for a larger view.
