Pirates win league Babe Ruth tourney
Pirates are C.I.L. Babe Ruth Champions!
Under a fresh new Central Idaho League that combined with the River League and Mccall to form a 6 team league, the Prairie Pirates won the year-end tournament that started in Orofino on Friday and ended in Kooskia on Saturday.
It was only fitting that the Prairie Pirates from Cottonwood faced the Grangeville Bulldogs, their only loss of the season, in the championship game.  The Pirates, sponsored by Rod and June Behler of Fred's Body Shop, won a mercy-rule shortened contest by the score of 11-1.  The Pirates beat McCall, 8-5, and Orofino, 8-4, on Friday in Orofino to punch their ticket to the championship game.
The 6 team league allowed for a tournament format similar to what is used in the 1A high school level, with the top 2 teams receiving byes and 2 play-in games to round out a 4-team true double elimination field. Grangeville won their play-in game vs Nezperce and Clearwater Valley lost their play in game vs Mccall.  Grangeville earned 2nd place honors in the tournament after battling from the loser's bracket, beating Orofino in an earlier Saturday morning game.  Orofino finished the tournament in 3rd place, while McCall placed 4th.
