Crosscountry
program at PHS
This year the students of Prairie High School and potentially Junior High will have the opportunity to take on a new challenge in the sporting world. Cross Country is a sport that has been around for a long time and provides the ultimate in challenge for those wanting to push themselves to new limits in physical endurance, while still working as a team to have the best score. Each individual athlete can help their team by placing as high as they can. Team scores are based on the top five finishers from a team, therefore getting 30th instead of 31st might make the difference between winning and losing at a cross country meet. This letter is an invitation letter for any student interested in joining our cross country team. At this time I have 12 girls who have expressed interest and 3 boys. IMPORTANT DETAILS. This is not a funded sport by the Prairie schools. We will be paying for our meets and transportation. More details about this at a meeting that will be announced soon. Those taking volleyball or football can take cross country but those sports will take precedence if there is any conflict of events. So anyone wanting to take on a new challenge or get in great physical condition for other sports is welcome to contact me about this new challenge. Please contact Glenn Poxleitner at 983-4190 or gpoxleitner@idfg.com if you are interested. Those of you who have already expressed interest should be expecting a letter with more details soon. Season starts August 15th, although we will be having an organizational meeting before that and I would ask that you consider some running in the early part of August on your own. Mr. Dave Young and Mrs. Jenny Arnzen have expressed interest and enthusiasm in assisting me on this new adventure. I guarantee this to be a new and rewarding challenge and I also guarantee that we will have some fun and different practices. So come out and give Cross Country a try. Glenn Poxleitner |
