3 finish in top 6
In Prairie’s first crosscountry meet of the season and this first in almost 20 years that they’ve had their own program, Chaye Uptmor took second, Kylie Tidwell third and Leah Higgins 6th as the girls team placed second.
Uptmor’s time over the 5K run at the Grangeville Golf Course Thursday, Sept. 3 was 23:40.77, 9 seconds behind the first place winner from Deary.
Tidwell meanwhile was third in 24:20.13 and Higgins was 6th in 26:08.52.
Hope McIntire placed 17th in 28:50.47 and Sydney Bruner was 23rd in 32:50.02.
There were no boys results due to injury for one and not enough practices for the others.
As a team Prairie scored 32 points, 6 behind Deary, who incidentally is coached by Gordon Heath, who coached the last Prairie crosscountry team back in the late 1990’s.
There is a change on this week’s crosscountry meet as Prairie will be traveling to the Asotin Meet this Saturday instead of to Farragut State Park north of Coeur d’Alene. With 3 of the 5 girls committed to playing volleyball at Pomeroy on Saturday, coach Glenn Poxleitner felt it wasn’t worth traveling all the way to Coeur d’Alene with a reduced squad.
Chaye Uptmor comes down the final stretch to place 2nd in her first crosscountry competition.
Kylie Tidwell finished in third place.
Leah Higgins finished in sixth place.
Hope McIntire.
