Pirates sweep Kamiah
The Prairie Lady Pirates dominated the Kamiah Kubs in a home match Tuesday, Sept. 29, holding them to single digits in each game of a 3 game sweep, 25-9, 25-9, 25-7. 
Kamiah led only twice on the night, at 0-1 and 1-2, both at the start of the first game. Serving at 1-2 they missed badly and Sarah Seubert went to the service line. She served 13 straight points as Prairie dominated at the net. Seubert had just 3 aces in that run with Shayla VonBargen scoring 4 kills plus a stuff block and Krystin Uhlenkott adding 4 kills. Angela Wemhoff scored a kill for the other point. From that point on they cruised to an easy win outscoring Kamiah 10-6 the rest of the way. Danly matched Seubert’s service run at the start of the second game as she served Prairie to a 13-0 lead. Danly had 7 aces with VonBargen adding 4 kills and Seubert 2. After that opening run the intensity level dropped for Prairie but they still outscored Kamiah 12-9 the rest of the game. After an opening sideout kill by VonBargen to start the third game, Danly served 3 straight for a 4-0 lead. After 3 straight sideouts, VonBargen made it 4 straight with a kill and then served 3 straight aces, 2 of them on jump serves, for a 9-2 Prairie lead. After another 3 straight sideouts, Uhlenkott scored a kill on a tip and then served 5 straight points. She had 2 aces while Seubert had 2 kills, Mykaela McWilliams scored on a block and Danly added a kill for a 17-4 Prairie lead. Kamiah then scored their only service points of the game to cut the lead to 17-7 but Seubert scored a sideout kill and Sydney Bruner served out the match. She had 6 straight aces, two straight that hit the net and went over. VonBargen then ended the match with a kill. For the match VonBargen had 19 kills, including 2 blocks plus 4 aces. Uhlenkott had 10 kills and 2 aces. Seubert had 6 kills and 3 aces. Danly had 3 kills, 2 of which were blocks, plus 29 assists and 8 aces. Bruner served up 8 aces. Leah Higgins had 3 kills, 2 assists and an ace. McWilliams had 3 kills including a block. Wemhoff had 1 kill and 5 assists. Uptmor, in the libero position she played the latter part of last year, had 1 ace. Prairie has now won 12 straight matches and are 7-0 in league and 17-3 overall. The JV team also won all three games but they were mostly more competitive with scores of 25-17, 25-19, 15-3. Prairie trailed much of the first game and didn’t really take control until Anna Vinsova went to the service line with the score tied at 12-12. She served an ace and Josie Peery added a pair of kills to make it 15-12. After a trade of side outs, Peery served a pair of aces to make it 18-13 and Kristyna Krogh and Nicole Poxleitner each served a pair of aces to give Prairie there first game-point opportunity at 24-16. Kamiah got the sideout but Jordyn Higgins then scored the game-winning kill. In the second game Krogh served Prairie to a 4-0 lead with 2 aces and a kill each by Peery and Darlene Gehring. After trading sideouts, Gehring served 3 points which included an ace plus a kill each by Britney Bianchi and Peery for an 8-1 lead. Theresa Wemhoff served 3 aces to give Prairie a 14-5 lead and an ace by Bianchi and 2 more by Trista Latimer had Prairie up 20-8 and apparently headed for an easy win. At that point Kamiah started getting some points on served and managed to cut the lead down to 5 points before Krogh scored the game winning kill. In the final game Gehring and Vinsova each had a big service run as Prairie routed the Kubs. Gehring took over at 2-2 and served 4 aces in a row and Peery added a kill before missing a serve. Madison Pecarovich got a sideout on a freeball return and Vinsova then served out the match. She had 3 aces while Higgins added 2 kills and Gehring and Poxleitner added a kill each. Higgins got the match ending point on a first touch “happy birthday” kill at the net. The C team also won their match against Grangeville, splitting the first 2 games before winning the third.
