Local
students are part of LCSC Work Scholars program
The Lewis-Clark State College Work Scholars Program was featured during the Idaho State Board of Education meeting in Lewiston on Wednesday, October 21, 2015. LCSC Work Scholars, including three from Cottonwood and Keuterville, were among the 11 students featured in a Student Poster Presentation at the meeting where students interacted with Idaho State Board of Education members, administrators from other Idaho colleges and universities, and member of the press. Their presentations examined the work they are doing and how their experiences will help shape their future careers. Ashleigh Bieker and Peggy Sprute, both of Cottonwood and Andy Gehring of Keuterville are all part of LCSC Work Scholars’ inaugural class. Bieker works in the Nursing and Health Sciences Division as the Simulation Lab Assistant. The nursing “sim lab” is an interactive and hands-on training classroom, using mannequins and nursing equipment to simulate the clinical environment. Bieker is in charge of preparing the sim lab and its equipment for nursing students’ training. Sprute works as the Student Housing Coordinator in the International Programs Office where she maintains relationships between community host families and their international student residents. Sprute is also restructuring and streamlining the office’s current record system. Gehring, the first off-campus Work Scholar, works for Summit Utility Contractors, a Lewiston contracting business where he is a diesel mechanic. Gehring’s tasks range from preventative maintenance to full engine replacements. Work Scholars is currently accepting applications for the Spring 2016 Semester. Applications are due October 30, 2015.
