Summit
takes 4th at District
The Summit Academy Lady Patriots volleyball team wound up fourth at District as they were eliminated by Deary 18-25, 25-23, 13-25, 23-25 Tuesday, Oct. 20 at the LCSC Activity Center in Lewiston. In the opening game Deary broke open a close game with a 6 point service run that turned a 5-8 lead into a 5-14 lead. Summit managed to get the deficit back down to 2 at 13-15 after 2 kills by Ally Sonnen and another by Bridget Beckman. Summit was able to score only 1 more point when they had the serve as Deary sided out well and added points on their serve for a 7-point win. The second game saw Summit fall behind 1-5 before Deary missed a serve. Lucy Osborne then put together a great service run to put Summit into the lead. She had 5 aces while Sonnen added 3 kills as Summit took a 10-5 lead. The led by as many as 7 points on 4 different occasions, at 16-9, 17-10, 19-12 and 20-13. Deary then started to rally and cut the lead down to 2 at 21-19 before bricking a serve. An ace by Beckman put Summit at game point at 24-20 but Deary fought off game point 3 times before Summit called timeout at 24-23. The timeout apparently threw the server off her rhythm as she came out of the timeout and served beyond the end line to give Summit the game. In the third game Deary jumped out to a 0-5 lead and Summit never really go back into it as Deary built their lead throughout the game. Summit fell behind early in the third game as well but fought back to take a 10-9 lead on an ace by Rachel Waters. Deary took back the lead but Summit quickly reclaimed it on 2 aces by Kayla Rehder. Summit was able to hang on to the lead until late when Deary scored the final 4 points to erase a 23-21 Summit lead and win the match. For the match Sonnen had 28 kills, 4 assists and 1 ace. Stubbers had 7 kills, including 2 blocks, plus 6 assists. Waters had 5 kills, 19 assists and 1 ace. Lustig had 5 kills and 2 assists. Beckman had 2, kills, 2 assists and 5 aces.
