Meg continures to recover
After a week at St. Al’s Hospital and a little over a week at St. Luke’s (Elks) Rehabilitation Hospital, Sister Meg is home continuing her recovery on the assisted living floor of the Monastery of St. Gertrude. 
For Sister Meg, the October 15 automobile accident in Boise resulted in 8 broken ribs and a concussion as well as the overwhelming loss of a beloved friend. The other occupants of the car were Kathy McFaul and Peg Wuelfing. While Kathy is also making a good recovery, Peg Wuelfing has died of a pulmonary embolism — a complication of her injuries from the accident. Sister Meg has no recollection of her first several days in the hospital but her first impression is a room overflowing with flowers. “The flowers and gifts were overwhelming,” she recalls through tears. “I felt such support from the deacon community, St. Gertrude’s oblates, and family and friends.” Sister Meg is walking with the help of a walker as she recovers from muscle pain and soreness. Her glasses were shattered in the accident and she is waiting until she has more mobility before going for an eye exam. Her focus has been on expressing her gratitude for the outpouring of support. “Thank you from the bottom of my heart. You have made God’s love so tangible. I have always known and believed in God’s love, but I have really felt it. During my weeks in the hospital and at the rehabilitation center, I wasn’t afraid or anxious. I felt that I was being cradled in God’s arms — and I know that’s the whole community of Idaho and beyond. Prayers are real and they have made a difference for me.” How can people continue to offer support? Sister Meg asks for prayers for Peg Wuelfing’s family, Kathy McFaul, the other driver who is at fault for the accident, and continued healing. |
