Summit to host chess tournament Saturday
Sandy the Chess Guy will host his third annual chess tournament at the Summit Academy Gym this Saturday, January 16th.  
The tournament doors open at 9:00 AM with player registration and some simple instruction on how to play and the etiquette of tournament play. 
Tournament registration is $5 with scholarships available for those unable to pay.  Ages 5 to 500 are welcome. 
Sets will be provided but if you have a Staunton Style Chess set, please bring it.  The tournament starts at 10 and should end by 3pm with a half-hour lunch break. A concession lunch will be available, or you may bring your own.    Prizes are awarded in many categories.  More information on the tournament is available at Sandy the Chess Guy's facebook page: http://facebook.com/thechessguy

Summit edges Logos
The Summit Academy Patriots pulled out a close win over Logos as they won 54-52 at Craigmont Saturday, Jan. 9.
Patrick Chmelik broke a 52-all tie in the final seconds of the game to give the Patriots the win.
Chmelik wound up with a double-double with 16 points and 10 rebounds while Chris Osborne also had a double-double with 12 points and 15 rebounds.
Logos’ leading scorer, Brennon Costello tied the game with a 3-pointer with 30 seconds left. After Summit had taken the lead, Costello was fouled on a 3-point try with 1.5 seconds left and missed all 3 free throws plus an extra chance given to him on a Summit lane violation.
Free throws turned out to be a huge difference in the game as Summit was 15 for 25 at the line while Logos was only 4 of 10.
Summit got off to a strong start against the Knights as they led 17-8 at the end of the first quarter but let Logos chip away at the lead. It was 29-23 at the half and 33-32 after 3 quarters.
Tyler Krogh also scored in double figures for the Patriots with 12 points and had 5 assists. Dean Stubbers, Jake Stubbers and Dylan Krogh added 4 points each while Caleb Currier scored 2.
Summit improves to 6-2 on the season and 3-0 in league play.
Summit also won the JV game, 28-25 in two quarters.
