effort amongst law enforcement agencies
On March 18, 2016 the Grangeville Police Department took a Burglary report from a Grangeville resident. Someone entered the victim’s home and stole jewelry, tools and other items. On May 4, 2016, the Grangeville Police Department received information that an individual that had stolen property taken during the March 18 Burglary was at a home in Cottonwood. A records check revealed that this individual had active warrants for their arrest. The Grangeville Police Department contacted the Cottonwood Police Department and the Idaho County Sheriff’s Office and a joint plan to monitor the location in Cottonwood and arrest the individual with warrants was made. The location in Cottonwood was placed under surveillance by officers from all three agencies. The individual with the warrants came outside of the residence and attempted to get in a waiting vehicle and was arrested by Cottonwood Police Department Officer’s for outstanding warrants. During follow-up at the location narcotics paraphernalia was observed in plain view by an Idaho County Sheriff’s Deputy inside the location. The deputy obtained a search warrant for the location and recovered narcotics paraphernalia and a small quantity of methamphetamine. Based on information obtained by Grangeville Police Department Officersa search warrant was obtained for the arrested individual’s residence in an area of Idaho County, South of Cottonwood. In a joint operation the Idaho County Sheriff’s Office and the Grangeville Police Department served the search warrant. During the search warrant Grangeville Police Department Officer’s recovered one of the stolen items as well as other property whose origin is still being investigated. During the execution of the search warrant Idaho County Sheriff’s deputies saw narcotics paraphernalia and seized it and is further investigating its ownership. The investigation continues into the original burglary and the items recovered at both locations.
