Uptmor named Interscholastic Star
Five Idaho high school juniors earned Interscholastic Star Awards last week. The awards are presented biannually by the Idaho High School Activities Association and its state championship sponsor, the United Dairymen of Idaho. Chaye Uptmor (Prairie High School), McKenzie Kennedy (Grangeville High School), Blake Bartschi (South Fremont High School), Pedro Galvan (Skyview High School), Harley Goul (Capital High School) were selected from an outstanding field of students nominated by their schools. Other finalists were Brandon Patrick (Notus High School), Peyton Goodman (Melba High School), RaAnna Dahle (Fruitland High School), Matthew Sato (Twin Falls High School) and Allee Young (Columbia High School). Uptmor, daughter of Roger and Chris Uptmor, is a junior at Prairie High School where she participates in volleyball, basketball, track and cross country. She is also involved in student government and a member of 4-H. This year, Uptmor contributed to her community by being involved in the “Idaho County Shootout” which raised $10,000 for local food banks. Uptmor has already started on her senior project by raising $4200 for an all-weather track. In addition to the benefits to her school, this will also be beneficial to the local hospital’s physical therapy department, the BLM conditioning program and the health and wellness of her community. “Chaye Uptmor is exemplary in all walks of life. Her personality is welcoming, her smile infectious and her work ethic unmatched,” said Prairie High School Principal Carrie Nygaard. “She epitomizes what the Interscholastic Star Program is about.” Nominees for the awards are exemplary students participating in IHSAA-sponsored sports and activities. Applications include an essay, administrator recommendation, description of athletic and activity participation and an explanation of their service to their school and community. Interscholastic Stars receive a $2000 scholarship to the college of his/her choice. The IHSAA, with the support of the United Dairymen of Idaho, also contribute $1000 to the recipients’ schools and $500 to the finalists’ schools. |
