Lady
Pirates qulaify for State
The Prairie Lady Pirates played their worst game all year in their District opener against Potlatch as they lost 6-24, then bounced back to beat Culdesac 11-2 to take third place and qualify for State. Both games were played Friday, May 13 at Orofino. Potlatch jumped on starting pitcher Faith Uhlenkott for 6 runs in the first inning, plated 2 more in the third and then put up a 7-spot in the fifth. Hanna Ross started the sixth inning and had trouble finding the plate, with walks and wild pitches leading to 9 more Potlatch runs. Uhlenkott wound up going back in to try and end the bleeding. Prairie was down 0-8 in the third when they rallied for 4 runs to get back into the game. They cut the lead to 5-8 after four innings before things fell apart in the fifth. Potlatch only outhit Prairie 13-12 but 14 free passes in the way of walks and hit batters for Potlatch plus 4 Prairie errors made the difference. For Prairie Hailey Danly had a home run and a single. Sarah Ross had a pair of doubles. Hanna Ross and Sydney Bruner each had a pair of singles. Faith Uhlenkott had a double and Kylie Tidwell, Sam Remacle and Abbie Uhlenkott each had a single. Potlatch 6 0 2 0 7 9—24 13 0 Prairie 0 0 4 1 1 0— 6 12 4 Faith Uhlenkott was the starting pitcher again and got two quick outs before an error and a walk put runners on for Culdesac. She got out of that jam with a groundout to Tidwell at second. Tidwell then led off the bottom of the first by drawing a walk on 4 pitches. She then stole second. Danly hit a grounder to third and the third baseman took too long looking Tidwell back at second and Danly was able to reach first safely. Hanna Ross then hit a soft fly to left that the runners had to hold on so now the bases were loaded with no one out. Faith Uhlenkott then hit a grounder to third that was botched for an error with both Tidwell and Danly scoring. Culdesac got then got a groundout and a double play line drive to get out of the inning. Faith Uhlenkott settled down and pitched well allowing just 1 infield single over the next 3 innings. In the bottom of the second Prairie took control with a 5-run outburst. Remacle and Abbie Uhlenkott both walked and Sarah Seubert then singled to left to score Lauren Alfrey, who was courtesy running for Remacle, the catcher. Tidwell reached on an error with Abbie Uhlenkott scoring. Danly hit a sacrifice fly to left to score Seubert and Hanna Ross then hit a 2-run-homer over the fence in left. Prairie added a run in the third to make it 8-0. Abbie Uhlenkott reached on an error with 2 outs, went to second on a wild pitch and scored on Seubert’s single to right center. Culdesac finally got on the scoreboard in the fifth thanks to a 2-out walk, an error and a wild pitch. Prairie got that run back in the bottom of the fifth, also with a 2-out rally. Remacle led off the inning with a single and an out followed. Seubert then forced Alfrey at second for the second out. She stole second then scored on Tidwell’s single up the middle. Culdesac got another run in the sixth with a leadoff double, error and groundout to make it 9-2. A 2-out walk and an error looked like it would lead to another run but the throw home beat the runner and Remacle tagged the runner out to end the inning. Prairie tried to end the game in the sixth on the 10-run rule but couldn’t quite get the job done. Hanna Ross led off with a single to left and Faith Uhlenkott followed with a single to left. A passed ball moved the runners up and both scored on a single to left by Sarah Ross who would’ve been the game ending run. She went to second on the throw home and moved to third on a groundout but a strikeout ended the inning with her still at third. Faith Uhlenkott was able to end it anyway in the top of the seventh as she got the side out in order. Uhlenkott gave up 2 runs on just 2 hits with 3 walks and 4 strikeouts. Prairie had 12 hits with Hanna Ross collecting a homer and 2 singles with 2 RBI. Seubert had 2 singles and 3 RBI. Faith Uhlenkott had a pair of singles and an RBI. Tidwell had a pair of singles. Sarah Ross had a single and 2 RBI. Bruner and Remacle each had a single. Prairie takes a 15-5 record into the state tournament, their 15th trip in the last 16 years. They will play Notus at 9 a.m. PDT Friday at Quad Park in Caldwell to open state tournament play. Culdesac 0 0 0 0 1 1 0— 2 2 4 Prairie 2 5 1 0 1 2 x—11 12 3
