This year, we awarded $34,500 in scholarships, in addition to $2,000 in privately funded scholarships, to 28 students. Congratulations to this year’s winners on your academic success; we wish you the best of luck as you embark on continuing your education. The following two local students were awarded scholarships this year. Austin Sonnen won a $2,000 vocational scholarship, he is the son of Steve and Sue Sonnen of Greencreek. Rachael Frei won a $1,000 academic scholarship, she is the daughter of Virgil and Rose Frei of Ferdinand.
McGregor Company Scholarship Among the 2016 Graduating high school seniors receiving a $1,000 scholarship is Marisa Lustig of Cottonwood. Along with detailed applications, Standing Tall candidates submitted essays proposing methods that would dramatically improve ag literacy. The ideas proposed by these promising young people will be shared with our industry partners to create educational opportunities for everyone to better understand agriculture’s history and current economic, social and environmental significance. Knowledge of food and fiber production, processing and domestic and international marketing will continue to be the focus of the company’s ag literacy improvement efforts. Marisa Lustig Idaho County Farm Bureau Scholarships Bruner plans to attend College of Idaho, Caldwell, on a basketball scholarship and studying Pre-Med. His parents are Teel and Kellie Bruner. Uhlenkott, daughter of Brett and Cara Uhlenkott, will attend the University of Idaho, Moscow, majoring in Animal Science. Congratulations, Jake and Abbie!
