Kids
free fishing day is Saturday
On Saturday, June 11, the Nez Perce-Clearwater Forests and various partners are hosting three free kids’ fishing day events this year, at Wilkins’ Pond, Karolyn’s Pond, and Fenn Pond. The events are free to all kids up to age 12 and an adult must accompany participants. There will be lots of fun and even a few prizes so grab your pole and please bring your own tackle. The ponds will be stocked by Idaho Department of Fish and Game. The events will be held from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Nez Perce-Clearwater National Forests and the Grangeville Lions Club, along with the Idaho Department of Fish and Game, and the Bureau of Land Management’s Cottonwood office, will be presenting the 28th annual Free Kids’ Fishing Day Event at Wilkins’ Pond. Wilkins’ Pond is located off of Highway 95 approximately 5.5 miles south of Grangeville, on Lake Road. Jeff and Carla Wilkins are hosting the event. The Grangeville Lions Club members have donated money for prizes from Rae Brothers, Blue Fox Theater, and Crema Café. The Lions Club will be cooking free hot dogs and providing drinks for all. For more information on the Wilkins’ Pond event, please call Jennie Fischer at (208) 983-4048. Red River Ranger District, in conjunction with the Idaho Department of Fish and Game, will be hosting their free fishing day event at Karolyn’s Pond. To get to the pond, take Highway 14, before Elk City turn on County Road 222 toward Red River, and look for the pond near the old Red River Ranger Station. For more information, contact the Red River Ranger District at (208) 842-2245. The third free fishing event on the forests is to be held at Fenn Pond, located across from the historic Fenn Ranger Station on the Selway River. Fish & Game has stocked the pond and fish are jumping! The Fenn Pond restoration and improvement project is complete and the pond is again accessible with smooth new trails, fishing piers, and boardwalk making it an ideal spot for children and those who can’t traverse rugged ground. For information about Fenn Pond, please contact the Moose Creek Ranger District at (208) 926-4258. All other fishing rules and regulations including creel limits, opening dates and tackle restrictions remain in effect. Always check the seasons and rules for the water where you plan to go fishing.
