Sr. Mary Paule Tacke's legacy lives on
By Steve Tacke
June 15th will mark the second anniversary of the tragic death of Sister Mary Paule Tacke.  Although she is no longer with us in person, her spirit lives on in the children she has touched by saving them from abandonment.  Two young ladies who came into her life are currently studying at a university.  Had they not met Sister Mary Paule, who knows what life would have brought them. Another young man has the opportunity to make a better life for himself because he came to Bethany when his parents could no longer take care of him.  He now has hopes of becoming an engineer.  Through the efforts of Bethany Children’s Home, family members were found who were able to give him a home.  There are countless stories of how donations given to Sister Mary Paule’s homes, Bethany and Thembelihle, give abused and abandoned children hope and the opportunity to live a better life.
Sister Mary Paule’s work and efforts touched many lives. When she was taken from us, there were numerous people who wanted to step up and continue her much needed work. Some of those very people she encouraged and assisted are taking on the responsibility to make sure the good work continues. Sister knew that she was not going to be around forever. She encouraged and assisted young women to complete their studies so they could continue her work.  They are now deeply involved in making sure her mission continues.
The people of her original home in Idaho are supporters of her causes through their generous donations.  It was a beautifully unique situation Sister Mary Paule found herself in when the good people of Idaho began to send her donations.  Being the unique and driven individual she was, she found a way to turn that support into a way to help the most vulnerable children in South Africa.
Through the very great efforts of many, a non-profit organization, Sister Mary’s Children, is being created.  We can assure the donations you continue to give are supporting the missions Sister Mary Paule loved and nurtured. Sister Mary’s Children will also help to make sure your donations are used to their full effect. A board of directors has been established and includes Joan Riggers, Mary (Tacke) Lytle, niece of Sister Mary Paule, Brenna Riggers, and Steve Tacke, Nephew of Sister Mary Paule.
Donations are as always very much needed to continue this valuable mission.  We ask that you please continue to support Sister Mary Paule’s work. She would not want the missions to be forgotten because she has gone to Heaven. Her voice is still clear and true as she tells us there are still abandoned and abused children who need your generous support.
We invite you to visit the new website for Sister Mary’s Children at sistermaryschildren.org where you can stay up to date with the latest happenings and use our simple online donation system to continue your support.
