Summer
Reading Program concludes
The “Commotion in the Ocean” for the summer reading program has come to an end. We had fantastic times learning about the ocean creatures and the colorful and strange world they live in. The children were exposed to lots of non-fiction books which are wonderful for their vocabulary as well as learning factual lessons. We made Mason jar aquariums which were beautiful keepsakes, and then we made watercolor salt drawings. Thank you to all the kids that attended, it was fun to see you each week. Thank you to the dedicated moms that helped every week. Tara Rowland, Jennifer Riener, Stephanie Riener, and Lisa Riener: the kids and Mrs. Sonnen were very lucky to have you as helpers throughout the commotion!!! Parents, be sure to keep the kids reading over the summer, it makes for an easier transition back to school in August. Our public library houses a great amount of collections that will fulfill your reading pleasures. Old, young or in-between there is something for you downtown. The best thing about a book is that it can take you places that you may never be able to visit. You can dive to the depths of the ocean or climb the highest mountain, you can be a dragon slayer or an inventor, you can step back in time and be with the dinosaurs or you can learn about Idaho history. To hold and read a book makes you involved in the story with the characters coming to life in your imagination. What a great way to pass these summer days. Come and see what the library has to offer you and your family. Youngsters show off their mason jar aquariums they made at the June 30 session of the Summer Reading Progam. Photo by Lisa Riener. |
