Summit
wins opener
The Summit Academy Patriots opened their season with a 3-game sweep of defending league co-champion Deary Thursday, August 25 at Cottonwood. Summit won by scores of 26-24, 25-21 and 26-24. Lexi Currier had 8 assists while Kayla Rehder served 5 aces and Taylor Lustig added 4. Summit also swept Deary in a 2-game JV match 25-14, 25-13. They also played in a tournament at Riggins Saturday but we don’t have any information from that. 8 turn out for volleyball Summit Academy has 8 players turned out for volleyball this year along with a new head coach and assistant coach. Returning seniors are Ally Sonnen and Bridget Beckman. Lucy Osborne is the only returning junior. Returning sophomores are Taylor Lustig and Kayla Rehder. Freshmen are Erin Chmelik, Lexi Currier and Hailey Stubbers. Summit lost just 1 senior off of last year’s team although they also lost the two exchange students that played last year. Allen Sonnen has moved up from assistant coach to head coach and Jamie Johnson is the new assistant coach. Summit could be in the mix for a state berth this year, especially after knocking off Deary in their opener. Deary was co-league champion with Logos last year.
