Letters
to the editor from this week's Chronicle:
Dear Editor –
It is exciting to see the Cottonwood Community Hall as busy as it is
on weekdays and weekends; an indication of the vibrancy of our community
when it comes to social events, learning opportunities through instructive
classes & library patronage.
But did you know there’s a new offering to opt for? Tai Chi classes.
What’s Tai Chi?
It is an ancient Chinese martial art that involves gentle slow movements
to enhance posture, strength, breathing & balance. Don Munkers of Cottonwood
(208 553-5664) is the certified instructor.
People of all ages & fitness levels are invited to join the program
which meets Mondays & Thursdays at the Community Hall from 5-6 pm.
The class is fun, affordable at only $6 per session after the initial free
session. Learning just a few of these exercises has already helped improve
my flexibility; hopefully in a few weeks arthritis pain will be reducing
as well.
Won’t you consider joining us?
Thanks Cottonwood for making the Community Hall a vibrant usable place
for our community.

By now, we have heard our vice president candidates debate, and have
listened again to presidential candidates Trump and Clinton go at it for
a second time.
And of course, new scandals involving "The Donald," and more embarrassing
private remarks made by Hillary and released by Wikipedia just this week
continue to further damage both candidates.
So the average voter continues to struggle with the decision each of
us will make soon in November! Some will refuse to vote at all, while others
in frustration say they are going to vote for one or the other third party
candidates, knowing full well they cannot win! And a refusal to vote for
the candidate of your party might well favor the one you want least!
So each of us might well ask? What can a concerned voter do? I will
simply swallow my dismay at the recent release of Donald's flippant comments
about women made several years ago, written off by him as reckless "locker
room talk" which he apologized for. The comments were crude and unfortunate,
but still one must remember that "He without sin throw the first stone."
Most of us have let rash statements escape from our mouth at one time or
the other, or have found ourselves gossiping in an unkind way about some
other individual. Maybe I will hold my nose, but I will put my "X" this
November by Trump! In truth, I have no choice! I have followed carefully
the record of the Clintons far into the past century. Hillary's close friendship
with Margaret Sanger who is considered the mother of the Planned Parenthood
organization that sponsors and pushes for abortions on a large scale is
enough to force me away from a vote for her. But a careful study of the
history of the same Margaret Sanger leaves one totally convinced that her
ultimate goal was not just aborting individual unwanted children, but was
intended to remove from society the least productive and least wanted groups
in society. A quick Google search reveals a statement like this in 2012
"Blacks represented 42.4 % of all abortions. Legalized abortion is working
out exactly as Margaret Sanger intended." Another search tells you that
"the Black or African American percentage of the US population in 2015
runs about 13%." In other words, some 13% of our population is responsible
for around 42% of all abortions! Found there also are the following remarks
made by Hillary as she received one time the Margaret Sanger award; "It
was a great privilege when I was told that I would receive this award.
I admire Margaret Sanger enormously, her tenacity, her vision..." Even
more alarming is the number of deaths which might be linked to the Clintons,
dating to the 1990's, when the mysterious death of Vince Foster, a Clinton
official, was just one that emerged. And just recently, five names of individuals
who have died mysteriously can be researched on the internet for all to
read. Amazingly, one hears little or nothing about any of these incidents
in the daily press or on regular TV. A small comment on deaths associated
with the Democratic National Committee recently triggered my own Google
search using the title "Deaths associated with the DNC" gives names and
details. Alarming! Now I am not vouching for the accuracy of the information,
just reporting what is there for all to see! Can an individual do anything
about this state of affairs? One thing is there for all of us to do! PRAY...
if you believe the Lord above has any influence on our daily lives! Consider
even joining a number of local individuals who will be gathering at noon
on Saturday, the 15th, at the Park in Cottonwood, joining a national prayer
effort in support of our nation and the coming election! Prayer can work
miracles! It has in the past! Maybe it will again!!

To Whom it May Concern:
SUPPORT for SHERIFF DOUG GIDDINGS
I would like to express my full support for Sheriff Doug Giddings.
I have known Doug and his family for nearly 20 years. I also think Doug's
record speaks for itself. Recently, there have been several unfounded allegations
regarding use of county equipment and other matters. I have spoken to Doug
and believe that these are mostly rumors and largely unfounded with false
conclusions drawn mostly by those who oppose him. No one makes perfect
decisions all of the time, no matter who is sheriff. Everyone needs to
be aware that Doug stands up for our rights with federal authorities, including
the Forest Service, BLM and the U.S. Attorney. Doug is the first line of
defense against abuse and creeping federal authority. He is a big supporter
of our Constitutional rights, including the 2nd Amendment, and should we
need to ever defend our rights, I know Doug will stand with us. I know
Doug to be a practicing Christian, honest, hard working and God fearing,
who will give his all in whatever he does. We will not agree with anyone
all of the time, but Doug is the kind of person that we all hope we can
vote for in our National Elections but never seem to get the chance to.
It is for these reasons that I support Sheriff Giddings.

To the editor:
For the last several months, it seems the nation has been focused on
the two presidential candidates. Who will be best for the nation?
Whose programs will most benefit me and my family? Who will do the
best job of improving Idaho’s economy?
The reality is that the people who will have the greatest impact on
our lives will be working in Boise in the coming years. The actions
taken by our State Representatives and State Senators will have more direct
impact on our lives than those we send to Washington D.C. And that’s
why I am supporting Carl Crabtree as our Senator from this district.
Unlike his opponent, Carl has worked in the real world all his life.
In addition to raising his own cattle, he has made his living in this area
working directly with farmers and others in the agricultural industry.
He understands the real world problems faced by the people in rural Idaho
based on this firsthand experience. And this is what we need in Boise
– people who know how the world really works. Not someone from the
towers of academia who only think they know.
Over the last several months, I’ve gotten to know Carl and I am proud
to be able to call him my friend. Carl is the kind of person we need
in Boise: truthful, honorable, intelligent, and a man of the people
– not afraid to get his hands dirty to get the job done. I invite
all those who read this to join me in voting for Carl Crabtree on November
8.

The Hardest Vote of All
Observing this political season, I have composed letters like others
in our county and elsewhere. However, in so doing I am reminded of the
hardest vote of all. We, that is, none of us, will be “freed” by a politician.
However one, hard vote can liberate ourselves. When we step alone into
the voting booth in a few weeks, my hope, among all the candidates listed,
is that we see at the bottom of the ballot, only visible to us, printed
in pure gold, and in large Calibri font lettering, our name. Why? In reality,
our real problems in this life, our bondages, are in the mirror. If, we
will look at the mirror again, closely, we will see the solution to our
problems. I hope with that realization, we will with vigor and energy grab
the lever (or “check” the ballot) and cast a vote for ourselves before
we vote for anyone else. All of us have discouraging, despondent moments,
and are influence by environment and social fads. Yet we are not made of
ordinary clay. May we say, “This is who am I today, but this is who I will
be tomorrow”.

To the Editor:
I think most people would agree this year’s presidential race is a
choice between BAD or WORSE.
BAD if you plan on voting for Hillary Clinton, who has been mired in
an email scandal where the FBI Director publicly spanked her for sending
classified information or WORSE if you plan on voting for Donald Trump,
who has ties to the Communist Party in Russia, cheated on his taxes by
paying hardly any at all, speaks ill of Muslims and Mexicans and makes
vulgar comments about women.
A lot of staunch Republicans I know are voting for BAD not WORSE. I
wonder who that Deplorable American’s wife will be voting for.

MORE TO CONSIDER WHEN VOTING FOR TRUMP
A) His private Viet Nam. In a recorded 1997 interview with Howard Stern,
Trump explained that even though he avoided the draft and the Viet Nam
war, he nonetheless had his own private Viet Nam in the form of his concern
that he was always at risk of catching sexually transmitted diseases from
all of the women he was having sex with. He stated:
“I’ve been so lucky in terms of that whole world. It is a dangerous
world out there. It’s scary, like Vietnam. Sort of like the Vietnam-era.
It is my personal Vietnam. I feel like a great and very brave soldier.”
B) Trump’s voracious appetite for sex. According to him, his
sex partners included his many encounters with happily married women.
In this regard, he bragged in his book, The Art of The Deal:
“If I told the real stories of my experiences with women, often seemingly
very happily married and important women, this book would be a guaranteed
best-seller.”
C) The Boys on the Bus.[From last week’s revelation]. Once again, Trump
was bragging about his sexual encounters with women he was not married
to. So there he was at the debate Sunday night, claiming that his foul
language on the bus and his need for a handful of Tic-Tacsas he left the
bus (so he could steal a kiss and fondle at will) were just “locker room”
talk. Must be some pretty randy golfers who hang out at the Trump
courses.
D) Trump’s claim that Bill Clinton’s perversions didn’t begin to measure
up to The Donald: Like the other statements from Trump, this recorded
outtake is readily available on the internet where he makes Clinton seem
like a novice.
E) Trump’s Claim that Paula Jones was simply a “loser”: In response
to Clinton’s unwanted advances on Ms. Jones, Trump in another recorded
statement stated loud and clear that she was a real loser. Makes
you wonder why he paraded her into the debate forum on Sunday night when
he had denigrated her years ago.
Don’t take my word for the above noted statements from Trump, that
paragon of virtue that some in the Republican party insist upon voting
for. Those recorded statements are one click away on the Internet.
Look it up before you vote.

Editor,
A recent letter in your paper referenced Jake Wren's "war on socialism"
with a quote from Winston Churchill. A more telling quote from Sir Winston
would be: "Socialism is a philosophy of failure, the creed of ignorance,
and the gospel of envy, its inherent virtue is the equal sharing of misery."
Speaks fittingly to what Wren writes.
