Wemhoff
has huge game in win
Luke Wemhoff rushed for 204 yards and 5 touchdowns to lead the Prairie football team to a 62-26 win over Wallace Saturday, October 15 at Cottonwood. The win keeps the Pirates atop the league standings at a perfect 5-0 (6-1 overall) and clinched a state playoff berth for the fourth year in a row. It didn’t take long for Wemhoff to put his stamp on the game. Prairie received the opening kickoff, taking over at their 35 after the kick went out of bounds. Wemhoff had runs of 25, 17 and 17 yards in that first drive with the second 17 yard run going for the touchdown just 89 seconds into the contest. Wallace was stopped on fourth down at their own 43 on their first possession with Prairie taking over at that point. 3 plays later Wemhoff scored his second touchdown of the game, from 18 yards out, and this time also ran in the 2-pointer for a 14-0 Pirates lead. Wallace put a drive together on their second possession but it stalled out at the Prairie 22 with a fumble. Spencer Schumacher recovered the ball at the 22. Wallace again was stopped on downs at the Prairie 42. Prairie had to turn the ball over on downs on their next possession as Wallace finally figured out how to stop Wemhoff. Wallace took over at the 50 but two plays later Chaffee intercepted a pass at the Prairie 40 and took it all the way back for a touchdown. The 2 point try failed but Prairie now led 54-20. On Wallace’s next possession a botched punt play led to Prairie taking over at the Wallace 15 yard line.
