Summit wins 1 of 3 at District
The Summit Academy Patriots lost their final regular season match at Kendrick Tuesday, Oct. 11. They then beat Highland in their District opener Saturday, Oct. 15, lost to Logos later in the day and then had their season ended by Deary on Monday, Oct. 17.
At Kendrick
In their final regular season match at Kendrick the Patriots lost 12-25, 17-25, 17-25 to the league champion Tigers.
They ended the regular season at 7-5 in league play and 7-6 overall.
Vs. Highland at District
In their District opener against Highland Saturday, Oct. 15 at the LCSC Activity Center, Summit swept the Huskies, who had to beat Timberline earlier to advance to this match, 25-23, 25-22, 25-15.Summit’s Ally Sonnen makes a block against Highland at District. In the back is Kayla Rehder.
Ally Sonnen scored 2 kills to get Summit off to a 2-0 lead in the first game.
Lexi Currier scored a pair of aces to make it 5-1.
Highland was able to get back within 1 at 10-9 but 3 kills by Sonnen and an ace by Lustig put Summit up 14-9.
Highland rallied to tie it at 16-16 but a kill by Hailey Stubbers sent Bridget Beckman to the service line. Beckman was almost able to serve out the game, getting to 24-16 before missing a serve. She had 2 aces while Currier and Lustig had 2 kills each and Kayla Rehder added another.
Highland made it interesting as they came right back with 7 straight points before a missed serve finally gave Summit the elusive game point.
The second game was another back and forth game with Currier serving Summit to an 11-4 lead with Sonnen scoring 3 kills and Beckman 2, only to see Highland rally back and take a 17-20 lead.
Summit finally took back the lead with an ace by Lustig that made it 22-21. Highland got the sideout but a block by Sonnen again put Summit on top. With Currier serving, Sonnen scored 2 more kills to give Summit the game.
In the third game a 6 point service run by Beckman gave Summit a 10-5 lead. She had 1 ace while Lustig scored 3 kills and Rehder scored 2.
Highland came right back to tie the game at 11-11 and again at 13-13. 
Summit took the lead for good on a kill by Sonnen.
At 16-15 Sonnen scored a kill on a tip that sent Currier to the service line. Currier proceeded to serve out the match with 5 straight aces, a kill by Sonnen and then 2 more aces.
Sonnen had 29 kills in the match, including 3 blocks, plus 2 assists and 1 ace. Lustig had 9 kills, 2 assists and 4 aces. Rehder had 5 kills and 1 assist. Beckman had 3 kills 1 assists and 3 aces. Currier had 2 kills, 35 assists and 10 aces. Stubbers had 2 kills and 2 assists. Erin Chmelik had 2 kills.
Vs Logos
In their second round match on Saturday Summit ran into an opponent they struggled against this season and this time was no different as they lost 19-25, 21-25 and 18-25.
Logos jumped out to leads of 3-10 and 5-13 in the opening game and led 11-18 when Beckman scored on kill on a service dig for a sideout.
Currier went to the service line and with Sonnen dominating at the net with 4 kills and a block, the Patriots got back into the game at 17-18.
Currier then missed a serve but another kill by Sonnen got the Patriots back within 1. That was their last rally of the game though as Logos scored 6 of the next 7 points.
The second game saw Summit fall behind early again but rally to take a brief lead at 12-11 on an ace by Currier.
Summit again took the lead later on at 18-16 only to have Logos answer with 3 straight points to retake the lead.
Summit was able to tie the score at 19 and again at 21 but couldn’t get back into the lead.
In the third game Logos jumped out to a 0-5 lead/
Summit still trailed at 8-13 when a kill by Sonnen, 2 aces by Lustig and another kill by Sonnen cut the lead to 1 at 12-13.
After a trade of sideouts, 2 aces by Currier gave Summit a 15-14 lead.
That was the pinnacle for the Patriots though as Logos took back the lead and led the rest of game to win the match.
Sonnen again led in kills with 16, which included a block, plus she had 1 assists. Lustig had 5 kills, 2 assists and 6 aces. Beckman had 4 kills. Currier had 2 kills, 17 assists and 3 aces. Rehder had 2 kills. Stubbers had 2 kills, 1 assist and 1 ace. Chmelik had 1 block and 1 assist.
Vs. Deary
In a loser-out matchup Monday, Oct. 17, Deary, a team Summit beat twice during the regular season, pulled off a 3-game sweep of the Patriots.
Scores were 16-25, 16-25 and 15-25.
The Patriots end their season with an 8-8 record.
