Board meets
The school board held their regular October meeting Monday, October 17. A couple of coaching resignations were accepted by the board. Scot Schlader resigned as high school JV boys basketball coach and Seth Guyer was approved as his replacement. Guyer played for the Pirates a few years ago. The Junior High assistant volleyball coach’s resignation was also accepted. Fund balances were discussed including the track project fund, which is a new fund. The strategic plan was discussed with no questions from the board. Safety busing was approved. The list of students involved was presented to the board. In the facilities update Superintendent Rene’ Forsmann presented some plans for next summer. She is looking at remodeling kitchen cabinets at the high school. She is also looking at replacing both industrial kitchen stoves, one each at the elementary and jr./sr. high. Safety fencing will also be added to the baseball field. They will also look at purchasing a new bus. In the administrative reports, Forsmann reported they held a parent night Sept. 26 to discuss the Bridges Math curriculum with about 20 parents in attendance. Progress reports went out Sept. 28. Productive meetings have been held with elementary teachers discussing the new math and language arts curriculum. In her superintendent’s report Forsmann reported she and board members Tara Klapprich, Tara Rowland and Pat Alfrey all attended the Region II school board meeting via teleconference. She also attended a superintendent’s summit in Boise Oct. 4-5. They talked about budgets, insurance, attracting and retaining qualified teachers and the pool of educators coming out of colleges. In December they will meet with legislators. She also attended a public contractors licensing workshop with Jake Forsmann. Carrie Nygaard reported that Prairie students scored above state averages in the SAT. She also reported a Financial Aid Night is scheduled for October 19 at 6 p.m. at the Jr./Sr. High School Library. The PSAT for sophomores and juniors was to be held October 19 at the Community Hall. The Dream It-Do It conference is to be held at LCSC Oct. 26. Mrs. Quintal will be taking juniors Sydney Bruner, Anthony Karel and Tucker Hibbard to the event. The ACT is scheduled for October 22 with 39 students assigned to test at PHS with 33 of those students being Prairie juniors and seniors. The Prairie Football team are state academic champions for Class 1A. GEAR UP will be taking interested juniors and seniors on college visits on Nov. 9 to BSU and the College of Idaho. Mrs. Quintal and Mrs. Poxleitner will chaperone students on this overnight trip. A Veteran’s Day Assembly will be held at PJHS on Friday, Nov. 11. Breakfast for the veterans will be served at 8 a.m. by the student council with the assembly set for 9 a.m. The board adjourned to an executive session at 6:28 p.m. The next regular meeting is set for Monday, November 21 at 5:30 p.m. |
