Curtis
is Employee of the Month
The Employee Engagement Committee at St. Mary’s Hospital selected Debra Curtis as the October Employee of the Month. Debra was hired in April of 1996 as a nurse at St. Mary’s Hospital. She worked evening shift for two years before transferring to the clinic as Brenda Hewlett’s nurse. As a clinic nurse Debra’s duties include rooming patients, scheduling patients, assisting in procedures, patient education and much more. A fellow co-worker stated that Debra “exemplifies the St. Mary’s core values. Debra works hard to go over and above in caring for her patients with a smile on her face. You never hear her complain, but instead she looks for the positive in all things. Debra is a joy to work with.” Debra has always wanted to be a nurse. She started as a nurse’s aide in a nursing home while still in high school. “In 1981 I felt I had a calling from God, and I told Him if He would open the doors to the nursing program I would serve Him in this field. He is faithful and I am still working,” commented Debra. When asked what she likes most about her job Debra stated, “Interacting with people from all walks of life (in illness or wellness). I most enjoy assisting and caring for geriatric patients.” Debra graduated as a LVN from Angelina College in Lufkin, Texas in June of 1990. Later, in August of 2000 she graduated as a RN from Regents Excelsior College. She also has training as a Basic EMT. When Debra isn’t working she enjoys reading, yard/flower gardening work, camping, and spending time with her family. Debra has been married to her husband Jerry for 44 years. Together, they have 2 sons, Brian (wife Rachel) they are expecting their first baby in December, and Michael (wife Alana) they have 2 sons Austin and Cason. Congratulations Debra! Thank you for all of your hard work and dedication to SMH. |
