girls return
After a 2-year hiatus, Summit Academy will have a girls basketball team this year. Unfortunately this year Summit will not have a boys team. They welcome back Pete Prigge as coach, whose last game as Summit coach was a double overtime loss to Dietrich in the state championship game in 2012. Prigge will have 7 girls on the team this year, 2 seniors, 1 junior, 1 sophomore and 3 freshmen. Ally Sonnen and Bridget Beckman are the two seniors and the only ones who previously played for Summit when they were freshmen. Lauren Stubbers is the junior and Taylor Lustig is the sophomore. They along with freshmen Lexi Currier, Jessie Sonnen and Erin Chmelik last saw basketball action as 8th graders. Sonnen also played with the Prairie JV in the 2014-15 season. It is hard to gauge the outlook for this team due to their lack of experience although they have several solid athletes who should help make games competitive. They opened their season this past Tuesday on the road at Highland. Their next game is a home game at the Prairie Auxiliary Gym against Kendrick on Friday, Dec. 2. At this point their only scheduled games are league games.
