Benefit
for Jackie (Schmidt) Lacey
Jackie was born and raised on the Schmidt farm in Cottonwood. She came into this world earlier than expected arriving on leap year weighing in at only 5 lbs. As one of 5 girls in the Schmidt family she grew up and attended school in the local area. Jackie completed grade school at Saint Josephs and high school at Saint Gertrude’s academy. As a youngster growing up in the local area she was active in 4-H, glee club and the local marching group. She met and married Roy Lacey living in the Kooskia area and later moving to Weippe where they built their home and raised their family. As long time community members they were active in the many activities their children were involved in while attending school in our area. Jackie is well known by the students and facility at Timberline High school where she worked as an aide until retiring a few years back. In early October Jackie was diagnosed with inoperable liver cancer and referred to the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota as a potential organ transplant recipient. She left Weippe on Oct. 10 traveling to the Mayo Clinic where it was determined that her cancer was in fact operable. On November 14th she underwent surgery and has just been released from the hospital. She did not return to Weippe but is staying with family in the Boise area so she can be near medical care.
