Pirates win first 2 games
The Prairie Pirates stayed unbeaten with a pair of league wins this past week. On Tuesday, Dec. 6 they beat Kamiah 66-39 at Cottonwood and on Thursday, Dec. 8 they shut down Troy in the second half for a 48-18 win at Troy.
Vs. Kamiah
In the Pirates’ home opener the Kubs led just once in the game. They scored first for a 0-2 lead. Prairie then scored 12 straight points to take control of the game.
Hunter Chaffee gave the Pirates their first lead with a 3-pointer and a few seconds later added another for a 6-2 lead.Patrick Chmelik blocks a Kamiah shot as Anthony Karel and Brandon Anderson also surround the Kamiah player.
Tyson Schlader scored a lay-up, Brandon Anderson added another lay-up and Schlader scored a putback for a 12-2 lead.
After Kamiah broke their scoring drought Gavin Branson sank a 3 and Schlader added a free throw to make it 16-4. Prairie led 18-9 at the end of the quarter.
Neither team blistered the nets in the second quarter as Prairie connected on just 4 of 14 shots but Kamiah was even worse at 2 for 12.
Consequently Prairie was able to extend their lead to 29-16 at the half. Anderson scored 5 points in the quarter including a 3-pointer and Luke Wemhoff added 4.
The teams played almost even in the third quarter as Prairie outscored the Kubs 11-10. Patrick Chmelik, who had just 2 points in the first half, scored 6 in the quarter while Anderson added another 3-pointer.
Prairie finally broke it open in the fourth with a 10-0 run that turned a 48-30 lead into a 58-30 lead. 
Anderson opened the fourth quarter scoring with his third 3-pointer of the game. A trey by Wemhoff put Prairie up by 20 at 48-28.
Kamiah scored a pair of free throws then Prairie went on their 10-0 run. Anthony Karel kicked it off with a 3-point play. Chaffee hit his third 3-pointer of the game. Branson and Grant Gehring each added a basket to make it a 28 point lead.
Gehring wound up scoring Prairie’s final 6 points of the game. 2 of those came when two Kamiah players tried to save a rebound from going out of bounds under the Prairie basket and flipped it back in right to Gehring, who then scored a wide open lay-up.
Chaffee and Anderson shared high scoring honors with 13 points each. Wemhoff added 10 while Chmelik and Gehring each scored 8. Schlader scored 6, Branson 5 and Karel 3.
Prairie had a 37-29 edge on the boards with Chmelik pulling down 11 to lead the team. Nick Mager added 7 boards.
Anderson had 3 steals. Branson had 5 assists while Mager had 4 and Wemhoff 3.
Prairie was 26 for 59 from the field, 44%, and 6 for 14 at the line, 43%. Kamiah was 15 for 43 from the field, 35%, and 7 for 10 at the line, 70%.
Prairie had little trouble in the JV game as they rolled to a 50-10 win.
It was a slow starting game as Prairie led just 8-4 after one quarter. The Pirates dominated the middle 2 quarters though outscoring Kamiah 30-2.
They shut the Kubs out in the second quarter 20-0 as Devin Ross and Hayden Uhlenkott each scored 5 points and Dylan Schumacher and Derik Shears added 4 each.
Prairie made it a 30-0 run as they scored the first 8 points of the third quarter before Kamiah finally broke the drought with a basket at the 25 second mark. Kamiah had been scoreless for more than 2 full quarters as their last basket came with 1:10 left in the first.
Shears and Owen Anderson each had 4 points for Prairie in the quarter while Sam Mager scored the other 2 Prairie points as Prairie took a 38-6 lead into the fourth.
Prairie outscored Kamiah 12-4 in the final quarter, which was played under a running clock.
Shears wound up with 14 points to lead the scoring with Uhlenkott adding 9. Schumacher scored 6, Ross 5, Carson Schmidt and Anderson 4 each, Damian Forsmann and Michael Schwartz 3 each and Mager 2.
Shears made it a double-double with 11 rebounds to lead Prairie to a 34-20 advantage on the boards. Ross added 9 rebounds.
Shears had 3 steals and Schumacher had 3 assists.
Prairie was 22 for 49 from the field, 45%, and 2 for 8 at the line, 25%. Kamiah was 5 for 30 from the field, 17%, and did not attempt a free throw.

At Troy
The Prairie Pirates improved to 4-0 on the season as they shut down the Troy Trojans at Troy, outscoring them 25-2 in the second half.
Prairie led just 11-7 after the first quarter and 23-16 at the half.
They made some defensive adjustments at halftime and came out and shut out the Trojans in the third quarter, outscoring them 16-0 to take a 39-16 lead into the final period.
Troy got their only second half points in the fourth quarter as Prairie outscored them 9-2.
Chmelik had a double-double with 11 points and 12 rebounds to lead Prairie in both categories. Branson tied for the scoring lead with 11 points. Chaffee added 9 points with Schlader scoring 6, Anderson 4, Wemhoff 3 and Mager and Gehring 2 each.
The JV team also won big by a score of 53-23.
