Cottonwood
City Council meets
The Cottonwood City Council held their regular December meeting Monday, Dec. 12. Sheriff’s Deputy Doug Ulmer was present, informing the Council that the Idaho County Sheriff’s Department would like to start dropping by city council meetings to keep the city informed as to what’s going on in the county. He also wanted to thank the city police department for their help with a stop near Twin House Rd. which resulted in finding cash, meth, lots of gift cards and drug paraphernalia. The council also discussed a letter from Joel Wasem of Primeland about how sewer rates are calculated. Cottonwood bases them on average of the water use in March, April and May, which are apparently Primeland’s heaviest water use months. Wasem asked if they could base it on January, February and March like Grangeville does. The council asked City Clerk Carol Altman to come up with some figures but cautioned that they don’t want to start making exceptions as then they would have to do them for everybody. Wasem had apparently planned to be in attendance but wasn’t. In unfinished business the council passed Ordinance #247 which deals with aerial application chemicals at the airport, setting up a permitting process. In other unfinished business Mayor Shelli Schumacher reported that no employees were interested in the insurance benefits offered so they will not be offering a group plan this year. In new business the meeting dates for 2017 were set. The council will meet the second Monday of each month at 7 p.m. except for October when they will meet on that Tuesday due to the Columbus Day holiday. A memorandum of understanding between the BLM and the Cottonwood Police Department was approved. This is a renewal of a 5-year agreement that was already in place. Schumacher reminded the Council to at least give local vendors the opportunity whenever doing any purchasing. In reports Pat Holthaus reported they pumped 2.3 million gallons of water this past month and sold about 2 million for a 13% loss. There was no report from either the sewer or fire departments. Jack Duman reported Madison Street is now closed to be set up for children sledding. He also said the street and stormwater departments would kick in $1500 toward the cost of the new sewer line camera. Linda Nida reported the hardcopies of the airport inspection done last Spring should be arriving soon at the city clerk’s office. The meeting adjourned at 7:45 p.m. The next regular meeting will be Monday, January 9 at 7 p.m. |
