School Board meets
The school board voted to call for bids for a new school bus at their December meeting Monday, Dec. 19.
They are looking at a 47-passenger bus to replace the oldest one in the fleet, which they will use as either a trade-in or sell it.
The school calendar for the 2017-18 school year was discussed. It was decided to seek public input and bring it up again at the January meeting. Superintendent Rene’ Forsmann’s proposed calendar is shown below..
A safety inspection was done by the state building inspector on Dec. 7. Forsmann said there were issues in only one room and they are being taken care of.
In her facilities update Forsmann listed some possible projects. She is still working on getting some cost estimates. The board plans to look at them at the January meeting and prioritize them and give go-ahead depending on funds available.
Suggested projects are:
Remodel of kitchen cabinets at high school.
Replace both industrial kitchen stoves, one at each building.
Safety fencing at baseball field. This would be the right field fence where Center for Discovery children could possibly be hit by home run balls.
Updating the restrooms at the football fieldhouse.
Putting up an overflow building on the cement foundation that used to be Jake’s shop at the Elementary School.
Rubberized surface and striping for the track.
Purchasing a new bus
The board postponed the first reading of section 5 of the policy manual until January’s meeting.
The meeting dates for January and February were changed due to the regular dates being holidays. The January meeting will be moved to Wednesday, Jan. 18 at 5:30 p.m. and the February meeting will be moved to Wednesday, February 22 at 5:30 p.m.
Also the February meeting will be at the High School.
In the administrative reports Carrie Nygaard reported the Idaho County Shootout raised over $16,000 for our local food banks. The senior class was the winner of the class competitions.
Ryan Hasselstrom has been teaching a Microsoft IT Academy course to all sophomores and all 18 students have passed the Microsoft Office Specialist Certification. One student has also completed Microsoft Excel certification. Next year all freshmen will receive Microsoft Word and Powerpoint 2016 Basic Instruction and sophomores will receive Microsoft Word Expert and Excel Basic.
Ryan Uhlenkott was named Father of the Year at Daddy Date Night held Dec. 11.
The 7-12 concert went very well.
Seniors are selling raffle tickets to fund their after graduation drug free party.
The community science night was well attended with 35-40 students participating.
Junior high boys basketball is complete with both the 7th and 8th grade teams having very successful seasons.
Forsmann reported the two Elementary concerts went very well. 
She also reported the Center for Discovery shopping day and late Friday night event went well.
The school has an AmeriCorp volunteer who will be working with Elementary students on Monday, Wednesday and Friday. She is Katrina Bentley.
Testing will start in January.
Also hunter safety will be Jan. 9-13.
As superintendent she reported the Brownfield Grant application was put off until next year’s grant cycle.
The board adjourned to an executive session at 6:15 p.m.
The next regular meeting will be Wednesday, January 18 at 5:30 p.m.
