Through those years I have gained knowledge and experience that I hope
has helped in my service of the community. I would like to continue my

Redneck Review!
No. 107 - 5/8/2017
Common sense and the suggestions of some Review readers dictates that
it might betime to move on, to leave the topics under consideration the
last few weeks, and take a look at some of the other news items of interest
which one finds in the daily press!
But some things tend to stick in an old Red Neck's mind, and are hard
to get rid of, so we dare to take one last look at a couple of issues recently
mentioned here!
For starters, let's focus again on the obvious struggle which is going
on between the more traditional belief in the free enterprise system and
modern support for the old-fashioned theory of socialism. One way to begin
is to examine an important goal of each system, that of free enterprise
to promote a "level playing field," where every person has an equal opportunity
to succeed, based on an ability to satisfy human wants and earn an income
in doing so. One clear goal of modern socialism on the other hand
is "equality of output," which simply advocates that every individual should
share equally in the goods produced.
It really boils down to a rehash of two of the goals most economies
attempt to achieve. On the one hand is the necessary goal of EFFICIENCY,
and on the other hand is another very credible goal of SECURITY.
It will be argued here that it is very difficult if not impossible to achieve
both goals simultaneously!
Consider for example, an eleven-man football team. To be EFFICIENT,
and win its games, every person on the team must put out for the good of
all. Each team member knows that his spot on the team depends on
his performance there. Which means of course, that at any time he
may find himself on the bench if someone comes along more efficient than
he at the job he is supposed to do. Job SECURITY? Only if he
is the best available at that spot. No coach can guarantee that a
poor performer can stay on the field if a more productive sub sits eagerly
on the bench. So SECURITY must be dependent on EFFICIENCY!
SECURITY without ample EFFICIENCY cannot be guaranteed!
Now it can be similarly argued that a successful economic system must
be EFFICIENT. Or in the same way, a successful business must be EFFICIENT.
So much competition exists in the world today, between countries and between
companies, that lack of EFFICIENCY is the road to failure, to bankruptcy,
or to second class nation status.
So, can any coach guarantee any player a permanent spot on a team,
regardless of his skill level there or his production at that position?
Can he guarantee every player the glory which comes with a winning season
or a championship ring, even though that player has done little or nothing
to achieve the goal? Obviously not! SECURITY is impossible
without EFFICIENCY!
So is it not the same with economic systems? Providing SECURITY without
an equal need for EFFICIENCY is obviously a dead end street. So it
is claimed here that any system like ours has become, which strives to
give equal access to the good things an economy can deliver to about half
of its population, without demanding sufficient effort or production in
return, cannot compete, and is doomed to tough times! And the proof
of the pudding here is to research the average income in goods and services
available to people on government support programs with the average
income earned by a hard working and employed lower class. It is amazing,
and an eye opener for the uninformed! And might it not be related
to our huge national debt?
And if ever paid down, will it not fall on the backs of the producers?
Or of our children?
