Redneck Review!
No. 118 - 7/24/2017
Our last review ended with a brief suggestion that there are two different
ideas about the nature of the individual and the role that an individual
is capable of playing in the world around him. And the claim was made that
these contrasting ideas are causing a major split in our country today
that threatens our very existence as a nation! And the review ended with
the question: "Is there a solution in sight?"
The one answer to this question seems to be the more popular and "political
correct" one flourishing around our country and our world today, that government
and central banks have the responsibility of equalizing opportunity for
everyone, and for "managing" the economy and all of the major facets involved
in that economy; be it natural resources, health care, education, even
personal morality and the cultural relationships between people.
The problem is, this column has argued, common sense and the lessons
of history paint a clear picture of the dismal results of this age old
theory, known over the years as socialism, liberalism, progressivism, or
"the left." And beneath all the theory and its names, is the very
subtle belief that mankind himself is in charge, and that there is no need
for a supreme being
or a god of any kind. Bluntly, advocates of this idea believe that
the individual must be cared for by a benevolent government in much the
same way a dairy farmer cares for his dairy herd.
The more traditional answer to this question, the one based on the
teachings of Jesus Christ, and a concerned creator God, is that each individual
is unique, and gifted with varying talents which are used to care for himself,
his family, his neighbor, and his conformance to a code of conduct imbedded
in his conscience, and found in documents like the Ten Commandments.
Governments in this view, play a much reduced role in society, essentially
tasked with keeping the peace and guaranteeing equal rights to all.
And it is asserted here that common sense and a careful and unbiased study
of history clearly proves the superiority of this system!
So, back to the questions asked: "Is there a solution in sight?"
And the answer we give here is a resounding "YES!" A yes that can
be demonstrated by some examples that have come to light in the past year
or so. So my traditional "Hats off!" to the following individuals
who have gone out on a limb, and at risk to life, reputation, and public
scorn, have dared to challenge the popular "politically correct" positions
found in government and the press today.
The first "Hats off" goes to the young female writer, Kirsten Powers,
discussed in past reviews for her book; "How the Left is Killing Free speech."
Miss Powers, liberal in all of her thinking on abortion, gay marriage,
etc., still dared to document that the liberals in today's society are
not LIBERAL at all, but instead are ILLIBERALS, who do everything in their
power to intimidate and shut up all who disagree with them, essentially
denying them their First Amendment rights.
My second "Hats off" goes to Barronelle Stutzman who refused a floral
arrangement to a friend of hers planning his gay marriage. Citing
the 1st Amendment freedom of religion, Stutzman's case went to the Washington
Supreme Court, and the word is out, that the case will find its way to
the U.S. Supreme Court as a test of 1st Amendment's rights concerning religious
beliefs!
And finally, a third "Hats off" to Kimberly Strassel, whose book "The
Intimidation Game," is a no holds expose of the Obama government's blatant
harassment and use of intimidation tactics to silence opponents of the
administration. So there you have, an example of three people who have
used their talent to defend individual rights! An individual's answer to
the question posed!
