Summit
splits two matches
This past week the Summit Lady Patriots won a league match against Timberline at Cottonwood Thursday, Sept. 21, then lost a non-league match at Grangeville Monday, Sept. 25, 13-25, 10-25 and 22-25. Coach Shirley Stubbers said the hitting of Hailey Stubbers and the defensive play of Jessie Sonnen helped the Patriots to their win. Summit also served 90% for the match. Despite getting hit with the flu bug, all were able to play. The JV team also swept their match 25-3, 25-15. In the opening game Summit actually got off to a good start as they took a 9-4 lead after 3 aces by Lauren Stubbers. From there though it was all downhill. Grangeville scored the sideout and their next server had 4 aces in 7 serves as Grangeville took a 9-11 lead. Grangeville put the game away with their final server scoring 6 straight points. In the second game Summit scored first on a block by Lauren Stubbers but that was to be their only lead. Grangeville put together a 2-14 stretch to turn a 4-5 game into a 6-19 runaway. In the third game Summit came out a lot stronger taking leads of 8-5 and 9-6. Grangeville then scored 4 straight to take the lead but Summit fought back and took back the lead at 12-10 after a kill by Lauren Stubbers and an ace by Claira Osborne. The lead changed hands 3 more times with Summit taking their final lead at 22-21 after a kill by Claira Osborne. Grangeville then scored a sideout and served out the match.
