Summit
still alive at District
The Summit Lady Patriots finished their regular season with a senior night loss to Kendrick on Tuesday, Oct. 10 then won 2 of 3 at District to stay alive heading into Wednesday night’s action. They will play Nezperce at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 18 with the winner of that match playing the Logos-Kendrick loser on Thursday, Oct. 19 at 6 p.m. for second place. The second place winner then plays the District 3 runner-up Saturday, Oct. 21 at Grangeville at 1 p.m. In the opening game the Patriots fell behind 0-4 but fought back to take a 6-5 lead on an ace by Taylor Lustig. With Kayla Rehder serving Summit took a 15-12 lead after a kill by Lauren Stubbers and 3 straight aces by Rehder. Kendrick came right back to take a 16-19 lead but Summit wasn’t done yet. Lucy Osborne took over the serve at 19-22 and served Summit to a 23-22 lead with 2 aces plus a kill each by Rehder and Lexi Currier. She then missed a serve but so did Kendrick to put Summit at game point at 24-23. Unfortunately, Summit missed their serve to tie the game and Kendrick served 2 straight to win it. In the second game Summit led early on and still led at 10-9 after a kill by Lustig. However, Kendrick scored the next 9 points to take control of the game and went on to win by 6. In the third game Summit led 11-7 after a 3 point service run by Claira Osborne but Kendrick then scored 6 straight points to retake the lead. Summit led 14-13 after an ace by Rehder but that was their last lead. They were still close at 18-19 on a kill by Claira Osborne but Kendrick then scored the sideout and served out the match. For the match Lauren Stubbers had 8 kills, 2 assists and 2 aces. Erin Chmelik had 6 kills, including a block, and 1 assist. Currier had 5 kills, 16 assists and 3 aces. Claira Osborne had 5 kills, 1 assist and 2 aces. Lustig had 5 kills and 1 assist. Rehder had 4 kills and 4 aces. Lucy Osborne had 1 kill, 11 assists and 4 aces. Hailey Stubbers had 1 kill. With the loss Summit finished their regular season at 6-6 in league, good for fourth place, and 8-12 overall. Deary took the early lead in the first game with Summit taking their first lead at 7-6 on an ace by Lucy Osborne. The lead changed hands a couple time with Summit taking the lead for good on a bricked Deary serve at 14-13. Lauren Stubbers had a 4-point service run that included 3 aces plus a kill by Claira Osborne that created some separation, leading to a 21-15 lead. At 21-17, Deary bricked another serve and Lucy Osborne then served out the game. Her sister Claira scored 2 kills and Lucy served up an ace for game point. Summit led nearly the entire second game with Deary taking their only lead at 9-10. A kill by Lauren Stubbers tied it and with Currier serving Summit took the lead for good on a kill by Lustig. An ace by Currier and a kill each by Lauren Stubbers and Lustig made it 14-10. 4 consecutive aces by Lauren Stubbers made it 20-12 and Summit got to game point on an ace by Claira Osborne at 24-14. Deary fought off 4 straight game points before Rehder scored the game winning kill. In the third game Summit took an 8-5 lead after an ace by Lucy Osborne but Deary then scored 5 of the next 6 points to lead 9-11. They eventually led by as many as 5 at 16-21. At that point Rehder scored on a tip and Claira Osborne served 4 straight aces to tie the game at 21-21. A missed serve gave Deary their final lead as Chmelik tied it with a kill and Rehder served an ace. A double high call against Summit tied it but 2 more kills by Chmelik gave Summit the match. We don’t have any details of the opening game as it started before the Prairie-Troy match on the other court ended. In the second game Summit fell behind 0-2 but tied it on an ace by Lauren Stubbers. Logos then scored 7 straight points for a 3-10 lead. Twice times Summit managed to cut the deficit to 2 points, at 15-17 after a kill and a block by Claira Osborne and a kill by Lustig with Lauren Stubbers serving. They did it again at 16-18 after a kill by Hailey Stubbers. They got within 1 at 18-19 after a kill by Currier and an ace by Claira Osborne but Logos then took control, scoring 6 of the final 7 points of the game to even the match. Summit came out strong in the third game as Currier served 2 aces and Lustig served 4 as Summit took an 8-1 lead. Logos came back to tie the game at 9-9 and then took the lead for good at 14-15. They scored 2 more for a 14-17. Summit got back within 1 at 18-19 on 2 aces by Lauren Stubbers but then serving inconsistency hit as she missed the next serve and Logos held off the Patriots. In the fourth game Logos jumped out to a 5-16 lead and Summit never got closer than 12-18 the rest of the way as Logos pulled away for an 11-point win. Summit scored the first 2 points of the opening game but Highland scored the next 5 and never trailed again. The Lady Patriots struggled with mistakes, missing on 4 serves and letting a lot of balls drop that they normally don’t. Add to that some great net play by Highland and you get an 8-point loss. Summit bounced back in the second game by jumping out to a 9-3 lead after a pair of aces by Hailey Stubbers. Highland came roaring back though and took their first lead of the game at 10-11 as Summit hitting errors and a couple of into the net calls helped the Huskies. Lustig was able to serve Summit back into the lead with 3 aces plus a kill by Lauren Stubbers for a 17-13 lead. Highland was able to chip away though and tied the game at 21-21. Highland later got to game point at 23-24 on an ace. Summit fought that off with Currier scoring on a tip. Claira Osborne then tried to make a set but got lucky when her set went over the net and found an open spot to get Summit to game-point at 26-25. Lauren Stubbers then served an ace for the game-winner. Surviving that second game seemed to wake up the Patriots as they trailed only once in the third game, at 0-1. Lustig served 4 straight o give summit a 5-1 lead. Highland got back within 2 at 8-6 but Summit then pulled away again. Lustig’s second turn at the service line was worth 4 points with Claira Osborne scored 2 kills and Lauren Stubbers and Currier adding 1 each for a 20-10 lead. Rehder wound up serving the game-winning point with an ace. Highland took a 5-8 lead in the fourth game and held the lead until Claira Osborne scored a kill to send her sister Lucy to the service line. Lucy served Summit into an 18-15 lead with 2 aces plus a kill each by Rehder and Claira Osborne. Summit never relinquished the lead and wound up winning by 6. Summit is now 10-13 on the season.
